I went back and forth on deciding to leave this review. After thinking hard on it for a few weeks, I’m going to go ahead and leave an honest review on my experience. This review is mainly directed to the staff/owners of SGRR and not the service they provide. And it’s important to note there IS a big difference between the two. Right away I’ll let you know that the overall main complaint popping up in the reviews are 100% accurate regarding terrible communication. The other issue is they very much say they don’t judge on the website. But every interaction with Pam I had was cold and heartless. Deciding to put a dog up for adoption after many years of them being a family member isn’t a nonchalant thing. It’s one that my family cried over for months leading up to the day and months afterwards. We made the decision to handover our sweet dog because it was best for everyone, including our golden. That pain and the massive thought that went into that decision is heartbreaking. I felt like an inconvenience compared to a grieving dog dad. Secondly, the entire process took way too long. There’s zero reason why there should be week gaps in between responses. Especially while we attempted to make sure our Golden was going to a good home and second guessing if Sooner was that answer. The last biggest complaint is how I was treated afterwards. Pam told me that she would let me know an update on our golden after handing them over. I waited three weeks before reaching out to see if there was an update for us. I attempted to reach out directly to Pam through text and email a total of five times over the course of 4 months asking for an update and I was completely ghosted. We weren’t asking for specific details. We just wanted closure and knowing that our sweet little friend was okay and was adopted safely. Instead, we are a grieving family who have to go daily wondering what happened after the last time we saw our golden. That isn’t fair. Especially for a family who loved our dog since the day they were born. Absolutely shameful. Do we regret taking our dog to Sooner? We honestly go back and forth on that answer. I think the service they provide is miles better than the average pound type of place. But do hate how we were treated since the very first interaction to the last? Absolutely. Do better. These aren’t just dogs and a quick paycheck. They are family members.
Adopted a golden from here 13 years ago and they were great. Not so much this time. Contacted them after we lost our last dog, went thru the whole process and waited several days to be contacted. We were contacted and told of an event the following Saturday. We went, but were very disappointed. They had several pictures of dogs but did not bring the dogs that they had information on, volunteers did not know much about the dogs they brought. The person handling the one we were interested in, kept taking her and walking away every time we showed interest. Talked to a couple of people and finally just left. I emailed them back the next day and told them we were still very interested in adopting, but never got a response.
We adopted our golden from SGRR back 6 years ago. I’m glad they have such a thorough adoption process. They want to make sure they’re getting the best home possible for their dogs. Sadly, we lost Denver (aka Travis) to cancer last month. He was probably the best dog ever, and we’ll never forget him.
We filled out an application to adopt months ago. Filled out another 2 weeks ago and never heard from anyone. So we went to German Shepherd Rescue instead. Watched 1 Golden Retriever after another we lost out on. We gave up.
I was so sad to have to give my lil mama up. I WAS VERY IMPRESSED WITH SOONER GOLDEN RETRIEVER RESCUE!!! I felt good and knew she was in good hands… I will be donating to SGRR they are so compassionate and made me feel at ease putting my dog in their hands.. Thank you for placing lil mama in a good home…
Was really wanting to get one for my autistic daughter to train as an ESA. Filled out the intake online twice, even called and left a message and no one ever responded to me. My daughter was bit by a dog we adopted from the pound and she really needed a new best friend. luckily I found her a lab. Please respond to people
