I adopted a senior Pomeranian from Pets and People 2 years ago. The staff is very kind and helpful. They returned calls promptly. The new facility seems much nicer than the prior location. I got a lot of helpful info about her health needs and her life with prior owner (passed away) and it was clear Winky had been well-cared for while being fostered by Pets and People. I really appreciate all their efforts to find homes for dogs and cats in kill shelters. I think many of the folks helping out there are volunteers, so I'd advise patience - and in-person visit to anyone interested in adoption.
Met with great group of ladies working here. They had the perfect kitty for me. Adoption fee very reasonable.they give the kittens both canned and dry food which is great for them long term and facility was clean. Looking forward to 20+ years with my new kitty friend. They have a lot of super cute pitbulls for adoption as well It's been a year and still so greatful to have him. Adding photo of him with his friend.
My boyfriend and I have been trying to find a cat for us recently here in OKC. We’ve been to several shelters and humane societies and have never been spoken to like we’re idiots the way that Cindi spoke to us. We answered her questions but she made it clear that either A) she had a problem with us and thought we were incapable or B) didn’t want to do her job. Everywhere else we’ve visited has been so kind so this was really a shock. I feel sorry for the poor animals here because with that lady’s attitude they’ll never find good homes. For background, we did not fill out an application online and so some of the questions she asked were normal informational questions. However, as the questions went on she became incredibly condescending. For example, we told her we lived in an apartment and the cat would be indoors. She responded “if you ever let it outside it’s as good as dead.” And we laughed a little and said “yeah, it’s not going to be going outside.” Then she goes “well do you have a balcony” and I said “yes, we live on the fourth floor.” She brought up that we had grown up with indoor/outdoor cats and asked how we were going to live with an indoor cat then. What does that have to do with keeping a cat indoors??? We responded that again, it’s going to be an indoor cat. We have no plans to let it out. She goes “well are you sure?” Her tone made it clear she didn’t want us there, so we told her never mind, we wanted to leave. Everyone has bad days but don’t use that as your excuse to ruin other peoples ESPECIALLY when they’re trying to help you and your organization.
I absolutely can not say more positive things about this establishment, they are beyond amazing! I loved all the staff I met, and Cindy who runs it, is well… just as amazing! She genuinely cares about the animals she is caring for, and will ensure the pet is right for the family that is interested, as she wouldn’t want to adopt a pet to a family just to have one of her pets adopted, it has to be a good fit, not just for the family but mainly for the pet they may be interested in, which says a lot! It means she cares about both the animal going to its forever home and the family adopting the pet! In our situation, we found the newest member of our family, we met little Karev, the cutest little grey tabby kitty and we adopted him a week later, he is SO sweet, loving, and just everything we could of ever wanted in our new addition!! We feel blessed that not only did we get an amazing kitty, that was clearly loved and interacted with by Pets and People! I honestly can’t say enough positive things about this amazing Humane Society, we will always keep in touch with them, send them updates on our baby, and help volunteer when needed! Thank You 🙏🏻, Pets and People Humane Society, Cindy, Zoe, and Daisy! We adore you all, and appreciate ALL you all do for all the animals that are lucky enough to be at Pets and People!!!
Was interested in adopting a dog, called twice no answer. drove 45 min to be greeted by a less than happy front desk lady. offered no help, and has yet to contact us about our application. Very sad dogs needs homes and they are not provided efficient service to make this happen. Wasn’t allowed to see any dogs when we arrived. Just disappointed in the staff/ customer service because we could easily have one of their dogs out of their hands and in a happy home now.
Pets and People changed management and the improvements are impressive. The 3 acre dog park is just lovely and is open to the public. There is a fenced off area for small dogs and the large area has a pond for swimming. There is a waste station, running water and a water bowl, shade trees and benches to sit on. There are no unattended animals and the rules are posted clearly on the gates.
