Description Cedar Bend Humane Society is an open-admission, full-service animal shelter in Black Hawk County, Iowa. Homeless animals are provided with medical attention, shelter, a comfortable living space, enrichment items, and are advocated for until they find their forever families. Cedar Bend Humane Society offers many services that directly benefit both the animals and people in our community such as lost and found services, low-cost vaccination and microchip clinics, spay and neuter, TNR / Barn Cat programs, pet burial and cremation services, nursing facility pet therapy, and educational program. These animals are SO lucky to have such amazing caretakers. Especially Ann, she was amazing with helping us through the whole adoption process. She really cares for the animals, they couldn’t be in better hands! Everyone should definitely come meet the dogs and help them find a home! 🩷🐕🐶

I love Volunteering here! I know for the day I am here and spend time with the dogs I am making a difference In their lives! I may walk a few of them, clean kennels. And I absolutely give lots of treats. And right now I give extra love to Kirby he has a skin condition so I give him massages with raw shea butter. And plenty of hugs and kisses. My cat got out a couple days ago, when I called to get her back they wanted to charge me OVER $100 to even get her back, all they’re concerned with is the money of it and not the actual animals, they go on and on about how they don’t want anymore animals in there making sure they get spayed or neutered and but want to charge someone for getting their cat that already has a home and was just out exploring on her own free will. I adopted another cat from there and she’s great, but getting MY cat back and having to pay that much is absolutely ridiculous

This adoption center lacks communication and let us adopt a sick cat. The day of adoption we mentioned the sneezing and they neglected our comment saying they didn't see her sneeze even though we were in the play room with her and heard sneezing multiple times. We were also told that sneezing would be normal for the first couple days being at a new home and around new animals and we accepted that. We were told that we had 72 hours to come back if we noticed anything but like they said previously the sneezing would be normal so we thought nothing of it. The sneezing began to get worse with her extruding discharge, boogers, and snot with boogers occasionally hanging from her nose. We took her in today to see if something could be done or they could at least look at her to tell us if there's something wrong and if we should be worried or need to buy medicine for her. The lady at the front desk was rude and disregarding everything we said and claiming she didn't say those things when we first adopted her. We spoke to a supervisor and explained the entire situation including when we adopted her, the extent of what we know of her illness, and how long it's been happening. She referred us to their next door clinic and told us we could go there and she would be looked at. We got there and they said that since it was past the 72 hours it was "out of their hands" and wouldn't do anything to us telling us to go to our personal vet.

They are better than they were. You can look at the dogs with an escort now. Prior to, you, had to be approved to even look. So dogs didn't even get visits prior to their being killed because mo one knew they were there

Clean, organized, with attention to detail and as much information about the animals as they have been able to gather. I love that they do an exit exam and provide you with all the due dates for upcoming shots and treatments.
