Description At Grand Valley, our practice is grounded in science with the ability to listen, because no one knows your pet better than you do. We believe that by using science, coupled with common sense and a team approach, we can improve the bond between you and your pet. Our animal care team is composed of talented doctors and vet techs, which differ from vet assistants in that they undergo more extensive training to be qualified to perform more technical responsibilities, from surgery assistance and x-rays to maintaining pet treatments. Together, we work closely with you to determine the best possible wellness plan for your pet’s health and happiness.

TW: death. If you are bringing your animal in for surgery involving sedation I urge you to read this all. I was debating posting this review because I felt that it was too traumatic to relive, but ultimately decided that I needed to share my story in hopes that this won't happen to anyone else. I brought my 3 year old cat, Luna, in to get declawed. I received a call from the vet about an hour after dropping her off, saying that Luna had gone into cardiac arrest during her surgery. They had attempted to restart her heart for about 8 minutes. Once restabilized, I was told that they CONTINUED HER SURGERY and completed the other paw (as opposed to stopping and pumping her full of oxygen immediately). Due to the lack of oxygen that was able to flow to her brain while in cardiac arrest, she was declared brain dead and I had to make the difficult decision to euthanize. I have a few issues with the way this was handled. 1. I am in disbelief that they continued with surgery after the lack of oxygen that was able to flow to her brain during those 8 minutes. Did this mistake cost my sweet baby her life? 2. There were numerous stories that were shared with me about why this happened. One of them being a heart murmur that the vet himself had said over the phone. The receptionist had said bloodwork would have caught this. This caused me immense grief for something that was incorrect, as bloodwork doesn't show a physical heart beat. The story was then changed to "her anxiety" caused this. This diagnosis was again, incorrect, and caused me immense grief as I was worried about subjecting her to this procedure in the first place, and she was a highly anxious animal. Animals (and people) do not experience anxiety while unconscious. - I really didn't feel as though there was 1) accountability for what went wrong. Not once did I receive an apology for what had happened. I understand there are risks with procedures like this but, really? At least take some ownership for the grief that you've caused. 2) I felt that there was no transparency. Multiple stories were told, which were factually incorrect, and caused me extreme guilt. I'd appreciate the transparency to be honest about what may have happened in that operating room, and the respect to let me know that they're unsure of the cause. I have also read most of Dr. Darin's responses to reviews, and I am not impressed to say the least. - The icing on the cake was being handed a bill for $455. The fact that they continued to charge me for killing my cat was disgusting - they had told me this was heavily discounted but I am still in awe at the lack of compassion, and "discounting" involved. I have no intention of enforcing legal action, as I've come to the conclusion that this will not help me in my healing process, and this will not bring my sweet soul cat, Luna, back. I just want to move on. Luna deserved so much more than this, and I am disgusted with myself for entrusting her in the care of Grand Valley.

My sick male cat couldn't urinate, was in so much pain, 2 days before xmas, & so Grand Valley was the only place we could get him into, so they had me bring him in, and he ended up needing emergency bladder stone removal surgery on xmas, which this place did & took wonderful care of my Zoe. They even text you a few times a day with pictures of your fur baby & call you with updates a few times a day. After surgery, a sore angry bladder, a scary car ride home where we ended up hitting black ice at 50 mph, sliding off the interstate, on our way home. Had to get towed out, & stay in a hotel for 2 nights.... But after all that, I'm just so thankful Grand Valley took care of him right away & took such good care of my fur baby. ❤️
