Precise, diligent, detailed medical work just doesn't say enough. Our expectations were exceeded in even many more ways. The approach to our dog's health issues was conservative, organized, and phased, thus, reducing our dog, Emmie's, stress. Emmie was treated as though she was the only fantastic pet being treated that day. No rushing through information or solutions. So many wonderful, thorough, comprehensive, and brilliantly kind souls working under one roof. We feel so lucky to be within driving distance. #Forever grateful. < br /> How the doctor delivered the results and information left an impression on me. I was waiting to hear a foreboding tone in her voice, preparing me for bad news that was coming in her next sentences. Instead, her tone was a, "relax, we can handle this" kind of delivery. After reviewing everything I felt as though I could exhale. I had no idea I was so tied up in emotional knots until we began our trek home with answers and confidence.
I called on a Saturday to schedule my visit. The lady on the phone said it was first come first serve basis. I checked in by 2 pm that day. My pet was not seen until 4:35 pm. I was also one of the last people to be serviced, as many people had already came and gone with their pets. After taking my pet into a separate room, an additional 20 minutes had gone by and I was still in the waiting room without any acknowledgment whatsoever. I had to ask one of the workers if she knew what was going on. When I finally was reunited with my pet, I was brought into a separate room by myself. It seemed as if my pet was misplaced. I got the impression that the staff was not very knowledgeable at all. After waiting for hours they tell me that I would have to schedule an appointment on a later date to take care of my pet. When I was waiting for after care instructions I sat in the waiting room again for 35 minutes before I asked where the after care instructions were. The lady said she would go check and took another 30 minutes. I left. It seems like the ladies working there really didn’t enjoy their job one bit. The facility is also very smelly, I would never come back here because apart from wasting my time and my pets time, they were not knowledgeable enough to provide any services for the turtle at the time of the visit. In my personal opinion I don’t think my concerns were taken seriously which would be why I was one the last persons to be seen that day despite being there before majority of the other clients. The disrespect and passive aggressive attitude from the ladies in the front was just uncalled for. I wouldn’t trust them with my pet again, and I wouldn’t recommend. My turtle is thriving and will be seeing a more competent veterinarian. Thanks
I meant to leave a review earlier. In march my 9 year old terrier suddenly stopped being able to use her back legs. On a Saturday of course! I stopped by the closest hospital near me that was open and they immediately recommended euthanasia without so much as doing an Xray. I was immediately in tears and terrified. They recommended I drive two hours from where I was to Pieper. By the time I got there, it was 2 am, I was exhausted, scared, my poor pup in pain. Reception and the nurses immediately calmed me down, they were so so sweet. They made me feel like her problem was small and fixable. Reception helped me out with payment options. I left my baby not knowing much else. From there, I got daily calls from the vets giving me updates and answering all my frantic questions with so much patience. This hospital made this nightmare situation so much easier. I really felt like we were a priority and that they cared. When we returned for staple removal a few weeks after she came home, my dog who is not a big fan of men was all over Dr. Hammond. If that doesn’t speak to how loving they were to my girl I don’t know what does. I am so grateful for the entire staff. Mavis was able to celebrate her 10th birthday because of you all. Thank you 🩷
Five stars is not enough for what this staff has provided to our family. We called with an emergency at 12:30a.m. We drove from Massachusetts as our emergency clinic was closed. It was worth every mile. Our dog received amazing care. From the front staff to the technicians and finally the veterinarian Dr. David Vafek. Our dog needed emergency surgery they offered us to have it completed there and understood we couldn’t afford the emergency surgery prices. We were able to go home call our vet and our vet fit us in for her surgery. I am so grateful for their expertise. They truly helped us save our fur daughter. I am forever grateful. The price for the emergency exam was also extremely reasonable. Thank you.
First and foremost, I'm honestly shocked at some of the negative reviews about this exceptional veterinary hospital, as the level of care my beloved almost 11-year-old Shih-Tzu, Tito, received this past week was incredible. If you are on the fence about bringing your pet to Pieper, DO NOT HESITATE! Had I not brought him there, I might have faced a very different outcome this week. They are THE BEST in the greater Hartford area, if not the entire state. I brought my little guy here very early last Sunday morning after a week of having serious gastro symptoms, including vomiting and bloody diarrhea (which was very alarming). His regular vet wasn't as concerned as I was with his condition, but my gut told me he needed to be seen, so I went to Pieper for help/a second opinion. I lucked out and was the only person there when I arrived, so Tito was able to be seen by the doctor on call, Dr. Chris, within about 25 minutes. He was kind, compassionate, and extremely thorough, and I instantly knew I'd made the right decision in bringing Tito in. After running some labs, it was clear that he was very dehydrated and needed IV fluids, antibiotics, and anti-nausea meds right away. An X-ray and Ultrasound were also ordered to rule out any sort of obstruction or major issue. Tito wound up being admitted and stayed at Pieper for 2 nights, where he continued to receive the fluids and medications he needed to heal the inflammation in his gut and get his electrolyte levels stabilized. He was evaluated by the Critical Care Specialist, Dr. Turner, who also took incredible care of him and kept me very well-informed during his stay. Luckily, the X-ray and Ultrasound didn't show anything alarming, so I was able to bring him home after that on outpatient meds. Tito is only 7.5 pounds, so he's a little guy with a very sensitive system. He needed support to get on the road to recovery, which is exactly what the wonderful doctors and vet techs at Pieper gave him. From the minute we walked through the door, I was so RELIEVED that he was in the best hands, and I knew he was in the safest possible place where they'd work hard to get him well. He's also a nervous pup and gets scared around men, which the doctors and staff took in stride, even when he got ornery with some of them! Luckily, he also made a bestie during his ER stay, Abigail, one of the Vet Techs, who gave him lots of extra love in my absence. Hearing that gave me so much peace of mind. I'm sure there were plenty of other people who also brought him comfort, and I wish I could thank them all! We've been home for three nights now, and Tito is doing well, resting a lot, and is getting back to his old self again. He and I have Pieper to thank for that. I'm SO glad I trusted my gut and brought him there, and I'd bring him back in a heartbeat if another emergency arises. One last note - if the possible long wait to be seen by a doctor is the only thing deterring you from going to Pieper, I can tell you this: I would've waited for hours/all day to get the amazing care Tito received. Yes, you might wait a long time. When I picked him up on Tuesday, it was a full house. But I promise, it's worth every minute to have your pet evaluated and treated by this team.
Dr. Hammond is a huge asset to Pieper. He's so compassionate, caring, & knowledgeable. Oh…by the way…he's an excellent surgeon. ☺️ He's done successful surgery on two of my cocker spaniels for similar issues. Thank you!
