Description We are a No Kill Animal Shelter. Visit our 12-acre campus in San Antonio and our Paul Jolly Center for Pet Adoptions location where we have many incredible dogs & cats ready to make your family complete. Chartered in 1934, the Animal Defense League is a non-profit organization that is a true no-kill shelter for abandoned, abused, or neglected dogs and cats. Our mission is to enhance the quality of life for these animals by providing needed medical care, including spaying and neutering. Food, shelter, and safety are also provided – along with compassion and attention. While maintaining a healthy and loving facility, ADL consistently works to find the best possible home for each resident animal.

When I first arrived at the Paul Jolly Campus, I was immediately greeted by Kay, who guided me and put me at ease right away with their friendly and outgoing personality. I had seen all of the available cats and kittens on the website previous to my visit, so I was familiar with a few I wanted to meet. Kay was so patient and helpful with me and other folks as I took my time to meet the felines. I met several but when Kay handed me a tabby kitten named Peanut Butter, I knew instantly that I had met my new best friend. I want to thank Kay so much and let the staff know how much I appreciated her help, kindness and overall awesomeness!

My partner and I had been on the hunt for a new addition to our family. After a long day at every shelter in San Antonio we came in 30 min to close and found our sweet puppy Juju bean ( Mexican jumping bean) she was two months old and had puppy shaking syndrome which is a neurological condition that makes her back legs bounce so she’s has some extra pep in her step. They were very helpful and gave a full rundown on how to properly take care of her with her condition , provided a dated list of vaccines to get, a bag of food , microchip and had her spayed. By far the cleanest and most organized shelter we’ve been to!

Beautiful facility, I have previously volunteered there walking dogs. I found my fur baby there. She was the best girl and was healthy and gave us much love for 15.5 years.💕💕💕

This is a very grumpy place. I went right after work to check out animals and was not greeted or helped at all. They obviously wanted me to leave due to the arrival at the last hour of the day. There was a lack of communication from staff about the adoption process. When approaching the front desk two women saw me but said nothing to me. Finally, the supervisor Sophia came over to me to reprimand me from approaching the puppies. She was very rude and did not provide information willingly in regards to adoption. She definitely wanted us to leave and did everything to ignore us instead of just asking me to leave. Sophia please next time, just ask people to leave. I will be back only to save these animals from this terribly horrible vibe of a place.

Very disappointed- staff is not helpful. Tried to go and adopt a cat that we saw the day before, the cat we originally wanted was taken. So we looked at a couple more cats. However, while we knew they stopped adoptions at 6:30. No one told us that the paperwork needed to start at 6:15. We went to the front desk at 6:20 and was told we couldn't adopt tonight and we wouldn't get the clear the shelter special. It would have been nice if they would have given us a heads-up.

Adopted our beautiful pup here! We love her so much. She's as spoiled as ever. And she's still taking care of... We didn't boot her out in the cold like most owners do after puppy love. We adopt for forever love. Which most of you owners need to do. Seen too much disappointments after pretending their someone their not on that application. Be a good human.
