Dr. Harris has been our vet for over 13-years. He's saved both my rabbits' lives on multiple occasions. Fair prices. Excellent communication. An absolute wealth of knowledge and information. My 11-year old bunny passed yesterday and I cannot stress how grateful I am to Dr. Harris and his team for her continued care. While she passed in Orlando (NOT under his supervision), it was a valuable lesson about advocacy and education. In the 10+ years of owning this bunny, she was never hospitalized by Dr. Harris. Broken leg, broken pelvis, gi stasis, bladder sludge - Dr. Harris was constantly teaching new information and showing us how to care for her on our own! The one time she IS hospitalized for bladder sludge (again, by a different professional in Orlando), her hip is re-fractured and she goes down. Dr. Harris and his team are absolutely worth the 10-hour round trip. This is an experienced, genuine exotic animals specialist that sets the bar high both for his staff and for you, as a pet owner. I have nothing but respect and gratitude for the entire team. And while I cannot conceive a pet to replace Lumi... As long as Dr. Harris is practicing - My future rabbits will be his patients. Thank you. <3
I was a little hesitant at first because the reviews for Dr. Harris are either amazing or terrible but I had researched avian vets near me and he seemed to be the only one and was located 30 minutes away. I have a 12 week old cockatiel I've been hand feeding since 5 weeks and I was worried it might be sick and birds tend to die sometimes without even showing any signs of illness so I wanted to get it checked out with a professional. I'm definitely glad I decided to go! Dr. Harris was polite, thorough, sat down relaxed and let me ask a million questions without seeming like he wanted to rush out to see another patient. He handled my baby gently and he seemed very honest and straightforward with me. He visually and physically examined the bird and told me he seemed perfectly fine and that it wasn't absolutely necessary but if I felt I wanted more certainty there were some tests he could run but they were a bit costly. He told me the price and I never once felt pressured to do them. On the contrary, he made me feel like the bird was fine but I'm a worrier so I'd rather be safe than sorry and I had the tests done. There wasn't much interaction with the front office staff so I can't say much about it as I was seen just minutes after having arrived, at the exact time I was scheduled for my appointment. I saw some reviews of people complaining that they were late and weren't seen and as someone who has been on both ends of that situation I understand sometimes things go wrong and it's out of your control and it's frustrating to not have your pets seen, especially when you're concerned that they're sick but at the same time I GREATLY appreciate being able to go somewhere and actually be seen at the time I've been scheduled. The first week I got the bird I took it to another vet for a general checkup and I left wasn't seen till almost 3 hours after my scheduled appointment time!!! So to end this long review, if you have a bird, Dr. Harris is the man to see. He seemed very professional and knowledgeable so I'm glad I found him and I highly recommend him.
Dr Harris has cared for my Red Lored Amazon for 20 years. I live on the Florida Gulf Coast and drive all the way over to South Miami each year for my little buddy's checkup. Is it cheap? No......because owning an exotic bird is a lifetime commitment and is very complicated......and expensive. Dr. Harris is compassionate and incredibly knowledgeable. He has cared deeply for my beloved avian pet for decades. I feel that I'm uniquely qualified to rate Dr. Harris as excellent, since I've been going to him for 2 decades.
Recently went to Dr Harris with our cockatiel and bearded dragon for a first check up since they we just got them. It was curbside service due to Covid and even though not the most ideal way to have a consult, Dr Harris and the team were very nice, very accommodating and very thorough. I had a couple questions after the visit and was able to address them by phone and email very quickly. I will definitely be returning for my pets needs.
Don Harris helped craft the policy to sterilize all the peacocks in Pinecrest. He will also be the person who gets paid to sterilize them. I just think everyone should know.
