Description Safe Haven Equine Warriors (SHEW) is a Maryland-based non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to the humane treatment of all equines. Our primary focus is to rescue, rehab, and rehome equines either suffering from abuse, neglect or in imminent danger of slaughter, abuse, or neglect. We are committed to educating the public on responsible equine ownership and care, as well as the perils equines are subject to in today’s society. SHEW strives to be a pillar of the area, helping with countless outreach events and community assists.

I love this place! Very clean and well-run. Horses and ponies are loved and tended by a small army of committed volunteers, vets, and staff. Excellent equine care, riding, and groundwork instruction for all levels. The mission is very clear “to rescue, rehabilitate, and find great forever homes” for these gentle creatures. It’s what they do every day. Proud to volunteer here

Having had the opportunity to volunteer on site at SHEW, I can personally attest to a few things: 1) it’s clear where the raised funds go… to the care of the horses; 2) SHEW always acts in the best interest of the equine; 3) SHEW answers calls that other rescues do not; 4) the humans help the horses AND the horses help the humans.

I have seen both sides of this organization from the internal workings to taking personal riding lessons. They are a very fiscally responsible non -profit. No horse in need is turned away, even if the rescue can’t accommodate that horse the staff work to find a safe place for any horse in need. This rescue is small but mighty! They stick to their mission!

I cannot express enough gratitude for this horse rescue organization! They acted swiftly to rescue a school horse in dire straits, just moments away from a livestock auction. Despite severe lameness and kidney problems, their dedicated team, including a vet, dentist, and farrier, worked tirelessly to provide immediate care. Miraculously, the horse not only recovered from his ailments but was also rehomed to a loving environment. Today, he is thriving and living his best years, thanks to the incredible efforts of Safe Haven Equine Warriors. A true testament to their compassion and effectiveness in saving equine lives!

Best place ever! Learned so much from Safe Have. They have helped me through my Girl Scout silver award. And I’ve been volunteering for almost 2 years. I learned so much like feeding, blanketing, and more. I’ve gotten to see how the vet takes X-rays, how the farrier takes care of overgrown hooves or a regular hoof, I’ve seen how the vet takes care of eye infections, and more. I learn more and more each day.

This place is amazing and does fantastic things for their rescues. The kids learn valuable lessons life lessons and how to care for others and animals.
