What a wonderful place to find a new best friend! We went there to register our dog and almost left with 2 more... You get all your questions answered and even get caught up on needed vaccines! If you catch a wild animal on your property, you can also surrender it there, and they will take care of it. If you need a pick-me-up, stop by and spend a little time in the kennel, and your smile will return instantly ☺️!
If I could give this place 0 stars I would. The old white lady at the front was rude and stuck up the moment I came in. Didn’t even greet me at all before she snapped at me and asked if I had an appointment. On the phone when I HAD made my appointment-they had a completely different tone. I had to give my sweet boy Amethyst away here in hopes that he would get adopted into a kind family because no one I knew had the resources to take him and none of the other shelters I reached out to responded. This place didn’t even give him 12 hours to adjust much less 24 before they killed him by the end of the shift. I was made aware that they do kill here if the animals aren’t cooperative & I was told it was because he was scratching and biting staff through the bag. Had I known that they were heartless & impatient with the process of transitioning an animal from one place to another I would’ve never brought him here. If they cared to know anything about cats-they would be able to tell he was simply scared and acting as such. My cat deserved a chance to get adopted. Not get his life snatched from him before he had the chance to adjust. Please spare your babies and wait it out until you can find a better shelter for them. Just don’t come here, you’ll break your own heart.
So I went there about two months ago to adopt a cat after losing my dog. The volunteers were so nice and showed my a few different cats that would suit my lifestyle. I also got the meet the cats a couple times before I picked out the one eyed cat named Thomas. I renamed him pirate. They were also kind enough to waive my adoption fee since I was a veteran. He has quickly become my cuddle bug and he’s super playful. If I’m home he has to be cuddled up next to me.
A white German shepherd is being endangered by a panhandler who for two days has stood on a narrow median at Rouse Parkway and Dobbin Road with the animal on a leash. He is using the dog to beg for money. It is unsafe. I called Animal Control and asked for an officer to check on the dog's welfare. The woman on the phone said they have received dozens of calls from worried people. But they will do nothing. I was told this is the dog's owner. End of story. I asked whether the dog was injured, had its rabies shot or was being subjected to cruel treatment in addition to what the public was witnessing. The woman who answered the call -- Anne Marie -- told me to go and check for myself. I was stunned. She finally put me through to an animal control officer who said he did not know where Rouse Parkway was and would not go out. I then called the police and asked for help. An officer was dispatched. Why isn't Howard County Animal Control doing its job? Animal Control has a duty to the taxpayer (I am a resident) to respond to public complaints and ensure the humane treatment of animals. If you see this situation again, don't stop by just calling animal control. Phone the police. Complain to the county commission. There needs to be accountability from this public office.
Looking to adopt a pet? If so, brace yourself to be bullied by the staff at this shelter! Never met so many bossy and disgruntled people in one place. The volunteers that care for the animals up for adoption in the back are quite nice but, the folks at the front desk, are rude, intimidating, bossy…even threatening! I’ve gone twice to look for a kitten and both times, left wondering how and why they got hired? After my last visit this past Monday, 5/20/24, the experience I had with Natalie (I think that’s her name) was so unpleasant, I knew I would not go back. I still want a kitten but won’t be badgered by folks that lack common courtesy, are rabid and out of CONTROL! Thank God the paid employees in the front don’t actually work with the animals there. Angry bullies should not have contact with humans much less animals that are already frightened and in need of a good home!!!
In my recent interactions with Jessica regarding the search for my lost pet, I encountered challenges in effective communication. Despite my attempts to discuss the situation and seek assistance, there were interruptions and a perceived reluctance to engage in a productive dialogue. As a result, I believe there was a misunderstanding that hindered progress in resolving the issue. I recommend improving listening and communication skills to ensure better customer service experiences in the future, Jessica. Do better next time or find a job you enjoy.
