What a wonderful place to find a new best friend! We went there to register our dog and almost left with 2 more... You get all your questions answered and even get caught up on needed vaccines! If you catch a wild animal on your property, you can also surrender it there, and they will take care of it. If you need a pick-me-up, stop by and spend a little time in the kennel, and your smile will return instantly ☺️!
If I could give this place 0 stars I would. The old white lady at the front was rude and stuck up the moment I came in. Didn’t even greet me at all before she snapped at me and asked if I had an appointment. On the phone when I HAD made my appointment-they had a completely different tone. I had to give my sweet boy Amethyst away here in hopes that he would get adopted into a kind family because no one I knew had the resources to take him and none of the other shelters I reached out to responded. This place didn’t even give him 12 hours to adjust much less 24 before they killed him by the end of the shift. I was made aware that they do kill here if the animals aren’t cooperative & I was told it was because he was scratching and biting staff through the bag. Had I known that they were heartless & impatient with the process of transitioning an animal from one place to another I would’ve never brought him here. If they cared to know anything about cats-they would be able to tell he was simply scared and acting as such. My cat deserved a chance to get adopted. Not get his life snatched from him before he had the chance to adjust. Please spare your babies and wait it out until you can find a better shelter for them. Just don’t come here, you’ll break your own heart.
So I went there about two months ago to adopt a cat after losing my dog. The volunteers were so nice and showed my a few different cats that would suit my lifestyle. I also got the meet the cats a couple times before I picked out the one eyed cat named Thomas. I renamed him pirate. They were also kind enough to waive my adoption fee since I was a veteran. He has quickly become my cuddle bug and he’s super playful. If I’m home he has to be cuddled up next to me.
I've been in the process of adopting a cat from Howard County Animal Control. The previous owner had given very little info on the cat (or her sister), but had said they were both spayed. The cat I'm adopting is long haired. Her sister is short haired. A scar could be seen on the sister, but not the cat I was adopting. I asked if she could be shaved and checked by the shelter, but was told she would go to vet the county uses since they dont do that at their facility. She would be checked. I expressed concerns about her being unnecessarily cut, but was made to feel stupid because they wouldnt put a cat thru that procedure if it was already done. I'd also get a refund for the cost of the spay if they didn't need to do it. Immediately, following signing the adopting contract I called the vet and asked that she be shaved so she could checked, to avoid being cut unnecessarily. Explaining that her sister had a scar and it didn't make sense the previous owner would spay one and not the other. I was told they'd check.... I just got a call from the countys vet that they didn't see a scar, but after cutting her open it was obvious she had already been spayed. So not only does this cat have to acclimate to a new home, she now has a 10-14 recovery time from a surgery she didn't need. All because they couldn't take the time to use their eyes. I'll be leaving a review for the vet as well.
In my recent interactions with Jessica regarding the search for my lost pet, I encountered challenges in effective communication. Despite my attempts to discuss the situation and seek assistance, there were interruptions and a perceived reluctance to engage in a productive dialogue. As a result, I believe there was a misunderstanding that hindered progress in resolving the issue. I recommend improving listening and communication skills to ensure better customer service experiences in the future, Jessica. Do better next time or find a job you enjoy.
My 12 year old Pressa Canaria Spartacus was laid 😢 to rest at their establishment, and they were really nice and professional. They were patient and so kind with my fur baby and me. I want to say it still hurts, but thank you, ladies, for all that you do and your support in this decision I had to make. Thank you, Lawanda.
