We spent a few months coming in to visit the cats before one really stole our hearts and we had to adopt him. Every time we visited (10+ times easily) we always had friendly interactions. You can tell everyone there really cares about the animals. The actual adoption process 'paperwork' took about 30 minutes, and I'd say they seemed pretty busy. So it was amazing that it was so fast. Thank you for helping us find our new family member 😻 ❤️

I've been watching Barbara for a while, adopted her yesterday Nov 9 2024. Lovely people, I'm so pleased to have Barbara!

Very very very frustrating to work with especially when you are trying to adopt a pet while living an hour and a half away. communication is horrible, you can't ever get ahold of them, they messed up our dogs surgery, they've made us drive 3 round trips so far (and counting) because the pets have to been seen at a certain vet that they approve. Very inconvenient and time consuming. It really sucks because a lot of these pets deserve a good home but it is definitely not worth the time, energy, or hassle. especially with everything that we've been through for our poor dog that we adopted. not fair for us or our lil fur babes. NEVER adopting for this shelter again.

My son and I brought a cat that was found downtown to the HS 12/24/19 in the event she was chipped or had an owner looking for her. She was not chipped but I knew I had to give an owner a chance to try and find her if they were searching. I doubted anyone was looking for her as the collar she had on appeared to be a kitten collar that was extremely too small for her. I called often checking in on her and the staff was super nice and always patient with my check-ins. One of the staff members finally asked me if I was interested in adopting her once she was released to the adoption floor. They put my information with her packet and sure enough when she was ready for a home they called! The process was safe and communication was great. Kennedy is so, so loved and living the greatest life with her sisters Mercy (Shih Tzu) and Minaret (tuxedo)! Thank you for all that you do HSSC!

I only stopped in there to help a coworker find their lost pet which it was there but very clean great looking place with alot of friendly fun staff members there. I was amazed at how nice and clean and just great looking the place was inside.

Recently adopted a cat and when we got her home after a 5 minute car ride we noticed she had a limp, that was never disclosed to us. I called and was told it was her shot she got that day, looking at the records the shot they were referring to was supposedly done in the right leg when the limp involves the left. 2 weeks later limp is still there and took her to the vet only to be told the limp is due to a chronic issue with thickening tissue of her elbow, that now has gone to far to help her. This poor baby will forever have a limp thanks to the negligence of the Scott County Humane Society. Not only that the rabies shot she received was incorrect and ILLEGAL. She was only ever given a 3yr dose when it’s required to be given a 1yr and then a 3 year. I am beyond upset, and luckily am a person who believes in getting a pet and keeping that pet. Had this have happened with someone else this cat could be back out on the streets and isn’t that the exact thing they’re supposed to be helping? I will never return to adopt an animal from here again. To add as well according the the record I have in front of me, stating the humane society as the issuer, date vaccinated 5/5/22 next due 5/5/25 and checked as initial dose and no previous records of the 1 year rabies shot.
