I’m sad to write this because this was my favorite thrift store and I donated here at least a couple times a month since it was in the old location. For YEARS I had a great experience every time and spent tons of money and made countless donations. Yesterday, I purchased $118 worth of goods including a matching set of doghouses for $75. One was price marked and one was not, I spoke to two associates to confirm I was buying the set (one a volunteer and one the cashier). I needed to come back with my bigger vehicle so I confirmed I could come get them the next day (today) and the cashier had me write my name and purchase down on the receipt. I wrote my name, number and “doghouses.” I called to confirm I would be picking them up today and the associate (a different person) said sure I will be here behind the counter. I drove an hour to get back with a bigger vehicle and proceeded to load one into the car, and brought another $50 worth of items to purchase and let the associate know we were also picking up the second doghouse. The manager Denise came out and proceeded to be extremely aggressive, condescending, and rude to my friend and I and essentially accused me of trying to scam them to get two for one. I was pretty floored at her approach and explained what had actually happened but she wanted to win an argument and not make money for a charity so I said fine, I’ll unload it and let’s just refund it. I would have paid for the second doghouse even though they made a mistake had she approached the situation differently and I let her know that. Instead, the charity is out $150 plus all the spending my freind and I won’t be doing here anymore because we were so put off at how I was treated. Shame.
I will say it's looking less cluttered and junky lately, but the workers might be being held against their will. I've never seen such a sad bunch of miserable people all in one place. Most prices are fair, but some are quite laughably over-priced. Went in today and After the experience I had with the cashier, (I think she might be a robot.)) Maybe program her to say hello, or goodbye, or better yet..have a nice day.) I don't look forward to going back. I will, because it's a thrift store and I don't need a grand experience. But a somewhat friendly one would be nice.
I can write an essay on how terrible this shop has become since it moved to the location . If i could give less than 1 star i would . I will go ahead and leave a list if reasons why this place is flat out terrible now . 1 - the prices are nuts - for a thrift shop , anything worth buying is priced at retail or ebay prices . Its almost like someone said "hey yall are one small thrift shop right , why dont yall try to beat goodwill out at the prices they are charging " .. and the shop responded with ... "bet , we got you" . Im guessing the reason for this is that someone in management or the board of directors said they need to charge more and compete with goodwill like prices , not knowing that goodwill is in fact not a thrift shop but its the only thrift like experience they have ever had . Even when they do a sale its still more then anything should be . Its almost like they have never stepped foot in any thrift store locally or otherwise and seen what prices should be . Not only were the prices jacked up from a normal priced shop when they first opened but have just steadily gone up and up . Basically everything is "boutique" and priced up and tye same stuff is there week after week after week because no one wants it even at a discount . Im guessing the fix to not making enough money was upping the prices which is very evident in the pricing , Old products sitting , no new products , large lack of customers . Someones fix was "hey lets just keep raising prices that will fix the problem of not making money right" ? Wrong , its almost as if whoever is making these decision has never run a small business or any business ever . when you have a failing business the last thing you do is raise prices , that is the top 5 things that tanks a small business thats doing badly . Somehow every other thrift store in town keeps their prices fair , but this shop cannot do it . Even goodwill took in the fact that they were getting ridiculed and raked over the coals for their prices and reduced everything back down to whats still higher than actual thrift shops but way better than it was . I can imagine an excuse is that they dont get enough or donations or quality donations , but thats obviously not the case when half or more of the bad reviews on here are that they will not accept donations most of the time . Or maybe that they dont have enough workers . Well i can sure tell you why people dont donate to thrift shops anymore . A combination Of prices getting too high and poor treatment from employees . Ive seen this story play out many times over the years . A shop moves and or shuts down for a remodel and re opes as a now "nicer /boutique" shop and then cannot stay open so starts raising prices and eventually shuts down . Luckily for this place the humane society will probably always keep the doors open and pay the few people it will employ the most minimal amount to keep a few people on board . I saw that many people were on here complaining about the rude workers and how miserable they all act and are . To that , yes some people that work there definitely look distressed at best . The manager is always nice and cheery but thats probably because shes making an ok / decent wage comparably to the regular workers . Also some of the volunteers are or seem to be in a good mood and or are nice as well. Ive put off leaving this review for so long but today was the last straw . The last time i was there the register guy asked me if i wanted to donate my change or round up or whatever it is they ask and i said "no , i wouldnt give a penny more to this place then i have to for my purchase " which he asked why ? I responded quickly and nicely that the prices are wildly high and basically a short version of what i wrote on here . And i thought he laughed or smiled and i left . Basically today the same kid wanted to charge me for 4 records when i only had 3 because one sleeve had 2 records . Then dropped half my change on the counter half in my hand and stared at me after doing it . Im out of space or i would keep writing .
The cashier was extremely rude, nobody was in line, but he aggressively informed me I approached the cash register in the wrong direction. He then semi accused me of pulling tags. I informed he to please check the cameras, by this time a manager approached and defused the situation.
Awesome prices! Pleasant staff! Awesome cause! Just a note to one's that feel negative towards this shop......the money goes towards the welfare of the animals that NEED our help and what better way to help the helpless.
Always a pleasant experience, the staff is always kind. The deals aren’t bad either. It’s definitely on my top 3 for thrifting.
