Description The Tangipahoa Parish Animal Control Department includes a government supported animal shelter. The department is operated through the Tangipahoa Parish Government, and enforces local ordinances and state laws pertaining to animals (dogs and cats) and protects the health and safety of both animals and people through the enforcement of laws regarding rabies control, dangerous animals, nuisance animals and cruelty to animals.

This facility is organized & well kept. The people that run this place work very hard & are dedicated. It smelled good & all the dogs looked like they had been bathed. They are kept in individual caged areas with little beds in a big room that is air - conditioned. They also have an outside caged compartment for each dog so they have variety & a nice size area where the dogs are walked by the employees. The lady, Bri, who showed me around was very friendly & gave lots of information on the dogs. She knew things about them that showed she cared. I would call it a 5 star hotel for dogs with 5 being the highest score.

I never had a problem calling yall about animals thinking they was safe but after seeing the video on the man dragging the puppy across the yard I'll think twice about calling. The public gets in trouble for that kind of crulity so y is it OK for an animal control to be able to do it. I just don't under stand. Just what did that puppy do? Sorry for my reaction but I love all animals

I had to schedule an appointment to drop off my dogs. They were gonna take both dogs at one time but one of my dogs didn't want to go. I had to reschedule.. The process was very quick. I was able to get updated information on the first dog I dropped off.

Big thanks to tangipahoa animal shelter for rescuing our baby. They were very helpful showing us the dogs and taking them out in the yard for us to interact with. The shelter is very clean and well kept. Pay them a visit and save an animal today. We love our baby!!!!!

I have NEVER been able to get Animal Control to pick up a stray dog. I have lived in Hammond for over a year now. There have been numerous on my street and sometimes I see the same stray repeatedly. They must not patrol around here (right by the University and Community Center where there are plenty of kids). The hours for picking up are awful and if it’s after hours they will only pick up with a police officer and only for aggressive dogs. I don’t have a backyard for my own dogs so when I have to walk them and there is a stray we are all stuck indoors! I get desperate enough to try and catch the stray dogs myself but I cannot keep them or tie them up. Just because a dog isn’t aggressive does not mean it should be allowed to roam the neighborhoods. Today I could not even get them to pick up the phone, it went straight to voicemail!!! Plenty of time before they close and I called three times. Very frustrating. I would rate one star but I appreciate any rescue organization, although I am not fond of kill shelters, I understand they have limited room and resources. UPDATE/REPLY: Please provide an alternate number if your main phone line is not working. I am sitting outside my house with the same two strays I have been calling about. They need to be picked up. The public should not have to come in contact with stray dogs, even if it’s a holiday (MLK Day). They are eating my neighbors trash. My neighbor is also pregnant and has two small children, they are uncomfortable leaving the house with these dogs constantly here. They are friendly dogs, but they are skinny and covered in ticks. I cannot care for them or contain them until tomorrow. This is unacceptable and disappointing!
