Description "We strive to keep the public and animals safe, provide educational opportunities, and help our animals find forever homes!"
all three of my fur babies came from Garland animal shelter. They have been a wonderful addition to our home. To foster a few more soon.
!!!!TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE---THE NIGHTMARE CONTINUES!!!!!! BEWARE IF YOU LIVE IN CITY OF GARLAND. My college student is a former dog bite victim who got a bully as a therapy pet after her incident. She came home from college with the pet. We had no idea of any city ordinances in Garland for pets as new homeowners. Our dog got out of her fenced-in 10 x 10 kennel after jumping on top of her dog house in the kennel. She ended up on the outside of our 6ft privacy fence. We have camera footage to advise that a fraudulent call was made to advise the puppy tried to attack a neighbor. We later caught the footage on camera. We were at church volunteering all day. We came home and did not realize she was gone because she had already tended to for the day. The next day, we rose to go in the backyard and no sign of our dog. We frantically searched neighborhood in distance, slamming front door 3 times when a note falls out of the door wreath. We caught the entire incident from 360 surveillance of our home. We got to Animal shelter, where staff was rude, miseducated, and rude. I refused to sign any papers on any contract because of the countless errors from the dog breed and color. How do you confuse a nearly white dog with beige spots for black white. They assumed she was a pit bull. Their paperwork conflicted from stray/field to being picked up on camera from the yard of her own home. We asked for a city ordinance and was provided an ordinance that was in contrast to what we were being told. The paperwork also conflicted in date of inc dent. I pointed out all errors and my ,aughters took pictures of the disgusting poor state of the dogs and even where they had our dog. Further insult to injury. It happened on Sunday, the paperwork noted 30 days into the future month. We immediately contacteArt munoz the Director, where we left 2 lengthy messages aandfollowed up the next day, Monday. He agreed that his field officer noted he felt the call was fraudulent because dog he encountered 20 minutes of the call was not violatile at all. This officer is caught on camera saying the same thing. Art munoz advised he would investigate and get back to me.HE NEVER DID. We show on camera his field officer took the dog and came back an hour later tucking a note into the wreath of the white door. He showed up unannounced out of uniform, a hoody, 9pm, and never rung doorbell on his leaving the note. WWhenwe arrived home and had he rung our doorbell we would have been informed he had our dog avoiding impounding. Now, we never were properly informed of next steps or requirements. Then Director starts sending us citations, though we were never properly informed via verbal or in any paperwork. I'v had two court dates to defend the failure of the city Animal service director and officers as new Garland rresident I am looking for all opportunities to ensure ordinances and policies are implemented to ensure city Animal shelter is educated on ordinances and processes. This is a nightmare experience and shame on the city for representing a city service poorly. I've yet to hear back from art munoz. I have documentation of phone calls, voicemails, and email attempts. It's sad that the city is not held accountable. Im looking forward to filing grievances with the state to ensure they adhere to all laws and ordinances. Not to mention the citation notes' failure to sterilize an impounded animal, but the ordinance provided by animal services notes is at the request of the owner. Nor does it state that the city ordinance is all pets in Garland have to be spayed or neutered. But they fail to accommodate for the facts that the places they recommend are booked til 2025 or book so fast for pets her size so almost impossible to be in compliance when the animal services paperwork notes possible fines if not spayed/neutered when the prosecutor says its a city ordinance that requires impounded animals or not. But their own paperwork contradicts the city ordinances, which puts pet owners in line for fines, fees, and citations without being properly informed or educated.
The sweetest dogs can be found at the Garland shelter. Please adopt, don’t shop!
I've taken 3 dogs that we've found. Upon looking for owners and not being able to find them, we take them here to hopefully reunite with owners. They've never given any hassle, it's been quite simple. We even adopted one of the dogs we brought since we saw it was not going to get adopted any time soon. Great place, friendly plus helpful staff and great animals if you're adopting.
I had not been back to this shelter since they transferred to the new location many moons ago. To say they have upgraded is an understatement. The facility is nice and the people are too. Friendly for volunteers and those wanting to foster. I adopted my little guy from them. No regrets!!!
Run, don't walk!!! I tried to use the affordable services to put down my very sick and old(14 yrs) cat. Two vets have already looked at her and said it was that time, but as owners, we still waited a while,... no matter though!!! The amazing vet at the garland Animal Shelter have so much hope that my cat get over her failed kidneys and so she will instead continue to suffer. Can't drink, can't use its box, pukes constantly, barely walks, can't jump 10 inches,.... These people are simply cruel. Taking animals from this shelter should be encouraged, if for only to save those animals under their "care".
