This rescue is causing more harm than good! Should’ve told me to call and make the appointment so they’d be spayed at 3 pounds instead of saying call when they’re 3 pounds!! So they “Offered” to help with costs to get our cats fixed at 3 pounds but didn’t disclose there would be a waitlist months long! It’s important to note we did not ask! I could’ve made the appointment way sooner and so my cats didn’t go into heat. Everywhere takes months to get into and I didn’t know that! I was told they’d get in at 3 pounds and not when they’re 8 months old!!!! Very disappointing!
They do a terrible job.I had to push the city ordinance in order for them to do their job and still they do not enforce it. For about two years now I have asked who is responsible for traped animals on the weekend and all they told me is call the police. Although they should have been telling me that trapping is no allowed outside of animal shelter hours because that is what the city ordinance states in section 10.5. It is the 4th of July and no animal shelter is open in our area yet my neighbor still has a trap set. I will call tomorrow, but I bet he won't get any kind of punishment for braking the law.
I’ve adopted two cats from Dothan animal shelter. I love them both. Bizzy is one of the best cats I’ve ever had. She did have worms and other issues when I adopted her which I expected from an underfunded shelter.
DON’T RESCUE FROM HERE. They don’t test their cats for Feline immunodeficiency virus (the equivalent of HIV), a highly contagious, deadly, incurable virus. When my vet informed me my rescue cat tested positive, I went back to Dothan Animal Shelter, where the staff were completely remorseless! They offered to exchange my cat for another. WHY would I want to exchange one FIV positive cat for another that’s more than likely positive?! On TOP of that, they’re sending these rescues out to be adopted at local pet stores! They literally know they’re sending out deadly animals for people to take into their homes. STAY AWAY and make sure to NOT adopt ANY pets that come from this Dothan City Shelter. And if they whine about the expenses: the FIV test is $40.
I'm not sure whom to contact but I will. I worked as a teen for a local shelter and yes it was a kill shelter, and most animals were strays but we did all we could to care for each animal the best we could. I looked at the cats, and there is no quarantine protocol. Clearly sick cats are along side healthier ones. They are put into small dirty cages stacked on top of each other. You go into shelters and there are several animals that have great personalities and are eager to make a friend. Each animal seemed to cower in the cramped cage. I don't know if it's a lack of funding, but the conditions of the animals here was simply unacceptable. If anyone knows who can be reached out to, so that something can be done to help the staff make this place better. Please let me know.
The woman that sits on the computer is very rude and had no remorse of us having to bring in an animal and was completely rude about us bringing our papers and told the woman on the phone well of course they didn’t bring there papers they are also a kill shelter!!
