Jessica, case manager, was incredibly helpful. She assisted w resources, and patience while I adjusted to being homeless and then again to having a home! ❣️ Absolutely grateful to her& Family Promise!
This place was amazing during the time that I stayed there. When you do intake, you're given a whole list of rules that need to be followed, as with any other business. Although being in a shelter is not the best place to be, I personally was helped with love and kindness. If you follow the rules, be kind, and have a good spirit during these trying times in a shelter, everything will fall into place for you. I will always give back to this shelter as I can. God bless!
We donated a few suitcases and got to meet a lovely lady that told us alittle about how everything worked. Wonderful place that I think helps a lot of families.
This place saved me. I’m forever grateful. From start to finish I had a wonderful experience. I never imagined that I would be in a situation where I needed to go to a shelter with my kids. Family Promise excepted my family with open arms. Always willing to listen and lend a helping hand. All of the staff is amazing I really feel I grew a bond with each of them. I walked away feeling secure and knowing I was prepared to moved forward in life. Thank you thank you thank
Was a helpful facility. I have a boy with special needs and would like too see the new family promise equipped better to handle children with special needs. Also staff better trained to deal with children of special needs. Mothers of special needs children could and do need extra support on all levels. Also id like too see something set in place for child care during the stay and help set up after. I hope they will accommodate for all aspects of restarting a new life. Being patient and kind goes further than anything else. Good luck to all who will pass these doors. I made it and am sure you will as well. ***************************** The new place looks amazing!!!! Glad too hear all the new accommodations you have made for family's with special needs!! Helping while a parent is at work is important!! That is an amazing start I hope you one day will expand everywhere to help more in need!! I want too thank you for what you did for me.. Alicia I want too add that I was asked by Laurie why I had not given up my autistic son while I was there. I became defensive and told her because he is my boy my blood and as his mother I will protect and raise him too the best of my ability. I am thankful for all they did but I did put her in her place. I wasn't well liked but they still helped me. That was the only neg thing about my stay. Thats why I mentioned having people trained on special needs people. Laurie had no special training and couldn't understand certain things about my son. Hopefully that is fixed. Leah was the wonderful woman I went too with everything. She was my helper. ❤
I didn't like Laurie's Attitude and condescending behavior when I stayed here and was tempted to contact management but decided it simply wasn't worth it. Now that I'm all grown up and in a much better predicament, I have a Voice. I stayed from May 2013-July 2013 and completed my Nurse's Aid certificate during my stay. Staying in this shelter was life changing and I experienced a lot of emotional downfalls, primarily due to a Family Promise employee. Laurie was extremely belligerent at times, stated things to belittle me when we conversated, talked about me to other residents in the program simply because she could and did not like me for whatever reason. Not to mention, she recently divorced during my stay which clearly had an impact on her work ethic. I felt so uncomfortable and humiliated, I chose to stay in the room during the day and eventually left the program before allocating another housing source. Individuals residing in impoverished conditions, necessitates certain resources similar to the primary goals of Family Promise. Even with a homeless living status, participants of Family Promise should not be treated unfairly. The program itself is amazing but I found Laurie to be an overall unprofessional/negative person. As a 19 year old, all I required was a helping hand not a rude individual demeaning me like I was nothing. I distinctly remember Laurie had a dog named Pepper Jack she would treat better than the actual human beings staying in that house. Luckily, I overcame a lot of my hardships. Today, I am working on my Graduate degree in Public Health From Liberty University in addition to already completing an associate's and bachelor's in Business Management/Administration. I will be joining the US Navy Medical Service Corps as a Healthcare Administrator Officer; ultimately to become a contributing part of our society. I am a married to a wonderful Marine and we currently reside in Virginia Beach, VA with 2 beautiful baby girls. I want to Thank the creator of Family Promise because my daughter and I would have opted to something much worse than a shelter. I also want to Thank the Churches and Individuals involved in this program. I wouldn't have made it this far without the generous acts of others. This Proves that we all have to start somewhere and regardless of what life throws at us and those who tell you "YOU AREN'T GOOD ENOUGH" Well Guess What- "YES YOU ARE" and "YES YOU CAN."
