Honestly the front desk Kim, she so rude each time I’ve been to this shelter. If your thinking of bringing your kids here she will look at you disgusted and you better be there to adopt same day same hour. I hear her tell a pair of females they did not need to be here just to look at the dogs. But don’t you need to make sure it’s the right fit? She about fast adoptions not caring for the turn around with animals being returned. She doesn’t care if an animal causes you bodily harm in this shelter, as I have a picture of this. I highly suggest going to Manassas City animal shelter. You will be treated better, and it’s at a lesser cost.

This is a great shelter and it has an awesome volunteer program that is very efficient and organized. I know a lot of people might get off-put by the shelter with the smells, appearance, etc. sometimes, but this shelter has very limited resources and personnel, and they do the best they can with what they have. The employees and volunteers here have big hearts and at the end of the day it's an animal center, not a showroom. They are constantly cleaning and working with the animals and it's a hard job that can be dangerous. I encourage volunteering here, it's easy, they provide all the training/what you need, simple background check, you don't have to do or work with any animal you don't feel comfortable with, and you can sign up for shifts as you please any days doing many different things. It's great fun and a great work out!

I had an appointment to make a drop off and the front desk woman asked me if I was with the previous owner and dog I said no. Unaware there was a dog in the lobby. I enter alone. She directed me to wait outside she said “ wait outside until I call u in.” I did so. The automatic door button is on the wall. Which I accidentally bumped into. She proceeded to say “ she keeps trying to come in here when I told her to stay outside and wait.” As if I cannot hear her. I walked in and let her know I hear her completely clear and I’m here for an appointment. I’m not sure who approved of her being in the front. Talking to people so rudely is not acceptable. She should not be in the front. Bad experience in the first 5 minutes being at the shelter. Unprofessional. The rest of the team seems nice and seemed to understand why I was upset. I appreciate that but the first interaction has left a horrible taste.

Horrible place, horrible people, 0/5. About a month ago, I found a young cat who was sneezing and in heat. In the past, I've worked with other rescues to trap and neuter some of the stray and feral cats in my neighborhood. I wanted to get this kitten off the street before she got pregnant. Unfortunately, it was Sunday, and I could not find a vet open near me. And I had no place to quarantine a cat on such short notice. So I decided to bring her to PWC animal shelter and told them I'd be interested in adopting her if they could not find her owner. I've only ever found the owner of a couple strays over the years, most are abandoned, but given that she was young and had a somewhat rare coat, I had some hope someone might be looking for her. They told me they'll contact me after the holding period is over. Ten days pass, and I don't hear anything so I called to check up on her. They told me she was on medical hold. That's fine, I'm glad she's being cared for. Another week passes, so I call to check up on her again. They tell me she is still on medical hold. I ask how she's doing, if it's serious, etc. "She's not your animal so I can't give you any information," they say. I said, "Okay, can you give me a call when she's off medical hold." They told me they don't give notification and that I would have to wait until she was out on the floor. I said, "okay, but how will I know to come get her?" They told me, "we don't hold animals for anyone." I replied that I was the one who found her and brought her in and I was told I had first right of refusal (those are the words they used when I brought her in) for adoption. The person on the phone just keeps repeating, "we don't hold animals." They transfer me to the manager who gives me little other information, but tells me I can call every day to see if she's adoptable. What else can I do? I call regularly until one day (a month after I brought her in) they tell me she was put on the floor the day before but was put back on hold because she scratched someone. She's on a ten day hold, they tell me, and give me the date she will be put back on the floor. I came on that date right before they opened and was the first one in the building. Only for them to tell me someone adopted her YESTERDAY. As far as I'm concerned, they straight up took the cat from me. They jerked me around the whole process, then straight-up lied. The staff at PWC animal shelter are incredibly dishonest and rude. I thought I could trust them because I'd adopted a pet from them previously, but clearly I could not. I'm never entrusting them with an animal again. I can only hope this cat went to a good home.

A well maintained and managed facility. Staff is very friendly and helpful. They accept animals that can no longer be cared for. Came by for the Empty the Shelter event. Happy to see how many people came out to support animal adoption.

12/30/23 11 am. This animal shelter is new (within the last few years) and beautiful. The animals seem well cared for and the staff is friendly and helpful. I wish I could adopt them all.
