Description Pasadena Humane is more than an animal shelter; we are a community-supported animal resource center providing compassion and care for all animals. Since 1903, Pasadena Humane has offered lifesaving programs and services for animals and the people who love them in the Greater Los Angeles Area. At our Pasadena campus, we provide shelter, dedicated care and new beginnings for thousands of our community’s most vulnerable animals every year. In addition to pet adoptions and foster, we focus on programs and services aimed at helping people care for and keep their pets, such as free and low-cost spay/neuter and vaccines, a pet food bank, and an animal support call center.

Great experience! I made an appointment but it was cancelled due to a gas leak and I was so annoyed, but there was nothing to be done because it was out of their hands-- they were still really nice even when I was a bit cranky. When I came back the next day, I was met with such incredible energy from the staff. You would have had no idea the chaos they endured the day before by their friendly attitudes. The person who helped us adopt our cats was so friendly, caring and open. She genuinely shared our joy in adopting our cats. These cats are my first ever pets of my own, and adopting from Pasadena humane was a joyful and easy experience. They made me feel very assured. When it comes time to adopt another pet, I will be back! They were very thorough in explaining everything, despite being very busy, and we even got some food to take home with our kitties. If you can't get an appointment (they fill up fast) coming on a Saturday or Sunday for visiting hours to adopt is very doable.
My husband and I adopted a puppy. The staff here made the transition simple. He's so sweet and loving. He's already becoming a member of the family.
First off, I’d like to clarify that this is not a review of the organization as a whole. Most of the volunteers and employees were very patient and helpful. This review is specifically about one very unprofessional staff member that my partner and I encountered on both (and only) visits to this shelter. There is a male employee with dark hair that was nothing but insulting and dismissive to us. He had a bad attitude on both occasions and everything he said came off as sassy and impatient. We were talked down to and generally treated as if we were unworthy to be there looking at the dogs. After the first visit, we chalked it up to an employee having a bad day. No big deal, it happens to all of us. But after the second visit, it was clear this person just severely lacks communication and customer service skills and has absolutely no business having been placed in a public facing role. Based on recent reviews left by others, it’s obvious that our negative experience with members of staff was not an isolated incident. What a terrible shame for these animals who could have gotten placed in amazing homes with caring people, only to leave PHS offended and empty-handed. Bottom line, everyone coming into your shelter willing to open their homes to an animal in need should be treated with respect and made to feel welcome and worthy, regardless of their background or level of experience with animals.
Really disappointed. I visited this facility many years ago (work related) and it was such a beautiful shelter facility, like a sanctuary. It has since been remodeled but I couldn't find a couple of dogs on their website that I am considering adopting. Unfortunately not all the kennels were labeled and the many volunteers weren't able to assist (maybe volunteers been used to make sure all kennels had at least minimal labels i.e, gender, adoptability, etc). Also, the stench throughout indicated the shelter was cleaned several hours before the limited visitation hours.
I’m leaving a 5 star because my experienced ended very well and the staff was super kind, but I wish there would be some protocol implemented so this doesn’t happen again. I drove an hour here, in the rain, so I could take a look at a specific cat. I already had a feeling that the appointment before mine was looking at the same cat and I was right, I didn’t mind at first because I expected it. I arrived at 10:45am and was told the other person waiting at the bench had the 10:30am appointment, was also looking at the same cat, but we were waiting on his girlfriend. His girlfriend didn’t arrive until 11:04am, thirty minutes past his appointment. Normally, when you’re late by 15 minutes your appointment is voided/cancelled. I understand because one of the party members were already there that it would make sense to wait, but thirty minutes? You don’t book the earliest appointment just to be late, that’s inconsiderate and disrespectful to EVERYONE’s time. If you need two people to make a decision, and only one person is there on time, then I do believe that the staff should have voided their appointment after the 15 minute mark, because you’re late. It doesn’t matter if someone is there. It’s not fair for the people waiting and it’s not fair for the staff to wait on someone who booked the first adoption appointment of the day. The staff was super lovely though and I did still manage to adopt a kitten at the end of the day which I’m super happy with. I just thought there should be a protocol for when one member of a party is late for adoption appointments.
This place is AMAZING! It's the best shelter I've ever seen. Everyone I've interacted with here is extremely kind and welcoming. The animals are well-taken care of. I have also fostered and TNR'ed cats here, and the staff are always super helpful and quick to respond. When I adopt a cat, I will also come here.
