The absolute BEST place to volunteer!! Everyone is so kind and helpful, and the sweet dogs make the whole experience so fulfilling! Volunteers have a lot of flexibility, and the shelter needs as many dog lovers to volunteer as possible. You can choose to walk the dogs, play with puppies, give baths, clean kennels, etc. The dogs are so adorable and loving, and taking them on walks truly brightens up their days. I can’t recommend this place enough—please consider volunteering or adopting from Furkids Alpharetta! ❤️❤️ **All the photos below are of beautiful dogs currently available for adoption!**
We adopted our girl 2 years ago , our hearts have been filled with so much joy, there is never a dull moment with her. Thank you for everything that FurKids does for these animals.
We just adopted Conan 20654 and he has been wonderful. We adopted a sweet boy and are very happy. Shelter staff were friendly, but it took several days before they responded to my application and it took a visiting foster mom of another dog I inquired about visiting my home to get an appointment for me to meet him. I feel really lucky to have adopted him and i appreciate the care he had. Thank you fur kids. It could be a little easier to make contact to get medical records, etc after adoption but I know it’s hard with just volunteers to get everyone trained and on the same page. so I do appreciate it and I hope it makes you all happy to know Conan (Cecil) is doing well and fitting in great in his new home. :)
Furkids adopts out cats before fully knowing them and their health and behavior. They won't let you adopt if you need to return a pet due to an above related challenge you can't manage. Thus good adopters are disqualified and pets miss out due to unrealistic policies and hasty adoption practices. My story as follows: I came to the Forsyth location to adopt a cat a couple years ago. My cat had passed over a year ago. I did multiple interviews with a nice young man counselor and passed their rigorous qualifications to adopt. I went on a discounted fee day as I'm a single mom raising a special needs kid and need to minimize the fees. I was shown around and met a quiet little white cat they only had a short time. The worker kept saying she's perfect for you. Since I wasn't struck my another cat as a match I said she seems sweet enough and is letting me pet her I'll go for it. When I got her home she was completely different she was terrified and under the bed. Well I know cats do that but I thought maybe I was too hasty and maybe Furkids hadn't had her long enough to give me the full picture, but we'll give it a go. Well a few hours later that night I woke up to hear her wheezing and coughing. This cat was sick. It continued into the next day. It was really alarming. I've never had a cat with respiratory symptoms. I called the counselor guy and we talked and I decided to bring her back because as I explained to him prior I'm on a limited budget and I cat with health issues off the bat and I felt she wasn't fully vetted when they showed her to me. She was in an area of new intakes at the time. I couldn't afford a lot of vet bills I was looking for a healthy cat. My special needs son comes first financially but deserves a pet. When I took her back it was matter of fact but of course uncomfortable, like a sense of shame at returning. I asked my adoption counselor if I would have another opportunity to adopt and he said given you returned a cat, management will need to review your eligibility. I never heard back. That was my answer. This is especially a slap in the face as my daughter volunteered at the Petco location on Holcomb Bridge as a teen for a couple years.
This organization is top notch! I love their passion and love for animals. I met one of their members while out one evening, then attended an adoption event at their headquarters. After that I knew I had to be involved and have signed up for training!
We got our adorable puppy from Furkids and we’re so thankful for them. They were up front about the cost, and the adoption process was painless. They were very nice, accommodating seeing multiple dogs at the same visit, and honest about what expectations would be. My daughter fell in love the moment she saw our puppy, and it’s all thanks to Furkids giving us the opportunity to meet her. We’re first time pet parents and you never know how you’ll be perceived! We’ve had our little lady now since mid February and love her more everyday!
