We are so grateful that SNAP Cats exists! Darryl, who helped coordinate the whole process from application to adoption, is so committed to the cause of supporting special needs cats. He is extremely knowledgeable about cat care as well as very responsive to email communications. Now, our FeLV+ cat has a best friend to enjoy life with! Beanie (the black cat) has been a joy and a gift to our family. Thank you SNAP cats team!!!!
I had an awful experience. The adoption counselor treated me like garbage and completely singled out my pitbull and told me that because I own 3 dogs I would not be a suitable home for a cat ESPECIALLY BECAUSE I OWN A PITBULL (HIS EXACT WORDS) put a bad taste in my mouth towards this rescue. I do not recommend this rescue, they are not willing to find a good match for your house hold and judgemental if you own dogs apparently.
We adopted a blind cat from SNAP Cats about 2.5 years ago and the experience was excellent. We found this cat sanctuary to be well run and the owner to be a thorough, consummate professional. We got little Macy, now known as Gato-ichi the Blind Claw-master; she’s a friendly, energetic, self-assured boss-cat despite being completely sightless. She loves to play and to cuddle, and we’re so glad SNAPcats rescued her so she could become a member of our family!
Beautiful sanctuary & adoption center for cats with disabilities. I volunteer here 2-3 days a week because it's such a healing experience to be with the cats. There are no cages. It is a beautuful house with an outdoor patio for them to lounge around in the sun & get fresh air. The rooms have rugs with lots of warm cozy beds & toys. Vet techs are on staff full time to take care of the kitty's needs. Check out the live video feed on their website!
Amazing team and amazing facility. They took in my special needs kitten when no one else would.
I contacted SNAP Cats in January after my uncle died and left behind 6 cats - 3 of which were littermates with moderate cerebellar hypoplasia ("wobbly cat syndrome"). My uncle had no will and no declaration as to what should be done with his cats should something happen to him. I scrambled to reach out to various outlets and was directed to SNAP by almost all of them. When I contacted SNAP, Darryl (the owner) got back to me almost immediately and reassured me that they could take in the CH bunch. I drove them out there today. To say that Darryl and his team are a godsend would be an understatement. I thanked him profusely as soon as I met him in person, and he gave the most casual "you're welcome," like taking on 3 CH cats was akin to breathing. He helped me fetch them from the car, as well as all the supplies I'd brought, and we placed them away from the activity and opened their crates up. I offered to pull them out so he could see them in action, but he declined, as he wanted them to come out on their own when they were ready. It was a small thing, but it really spoke to just how much love and care he exudes for these babies. When we got the cats and supplies settled, Darryl offered to give me a tour of the building and I of course accepted. I wasn't very familiar with the world of special needs animals besides what I'd seen on the internet and now with the CH kitties, so I was interested in seeing everything. I'm so glad I did. He showed me the different cat rooms (Kitten Room, Senior Room, and FeLV+ Room) and their respective catios. He introduced me to as many cats as he could, knew all of them by name even if they were brand new, and told me about their individual conditions. I'd been nervous about taking the kitties all the way to Santa Rosa from Lincoln, and also worried about their futures, as they only ever knew my uncle. After speaking with Darryl at length, I left the building feeling a wave of relief. I'm confident they're going to get the love and care they need to flourish and become the sweet cats I know they are. They were my uncle's entire life; he had no kids, lived alone, and regularly took in strays. The CH bunch were from a pregnant cat he found, and he kept them all out of fear that a shelter would put them down, even though he was overwhelmed. His love for them was evident, and I wanted to do right by them in his honor. Seeing Darryl interact with the cats at SNAP filled me with so much confidence that this was the absolute perfect choice for them. I am utterly indebted to Darryl and SNAP, and so incredibly thankful that he put together such a beautiful rescue for differently abled cats. I left with a new perspective on special needs animals, as well as a whole lot of appreciation for the wonderful lives they lead. If you've never interacted with special needs cats or are curious about them, I implore you to contact SNAP. You will see things differently and in a much more positive light. It was 200% worth the 2 hour drive, and I would do it again in a heartbeat.
