Description Founded in 1997, Fuzzy Friends Rescue is Waco's largest and oldest no-kill rescue. We are a non-profit 501(c)(3) animal welfare organization that cares for homeless and unwanted animals in a life-care environment. We never euthanize an animal to make room for another, and we care for all those we take in until they are adopted.
Our experience with Fuzzy Friends Rescue was nothing short of amazing! From the very beginning, it was clear how deeply the team cares about each animal they bring in. We first discovered our puppy on Adopt a Pet and their Facebook page, where they post great videos of the animals up for adoption. Thanks to these videos, we went into the shelter already knowing which dog we wanted to meet, and when we finally did, it was love at first sight! We were fortunate to meet Betsy, the owner, whose dedication to creating an exceptional facility truly shines through. She clearly works hard to ensure that Fuzzy Friends goes above and beyond to care for each animal, and we connected with her immediately over our shared love for animals. Sandra was also instrumental in making this miracle happen for us. She guided us through the application process, which took about a week, and throughout it was obvious how much thought and care they put into ensuring the best match for each animal’s forever home. Once we signed the paperwork, we were welcomed like family. Carly, especially, was incredibly loving and accommodating with the animals. She took time to walk us through our puppy’s unique personality, sharing valuable insights to help us make his transition as smooth as possible. We’re forever grateful to the entire Fuzzy Friends team for the incredible work they do. They even sent us home with a bag of food and a pamphlet full of helpful tips for his adjustment. It was a truly heartwarming experience, and we could feel just how much they loved our puppy. If you’re looking to adopt, Fuzzy Friends Rescue is the place to go—you’ll find a team full of compassion and genuine love for every animal.
**UPDATE** Turns out this shelter are also liars. The dog they told me they adopted out is still listed on their website and they’re actively updating her age. They also lied about trying to contact me when they never did the day they rejected me because they found a local family, which evidently did not happen. These guys are an absolute embarrassment to the rescue community. I met every single one of their insane requirements including over 2 years of vet history and history of rescuing dogs. And provided the proof of heart worm knowledge and proof of prevention over 6 years. They rejected my application 2 weeks after my family met the dog and fell in love for the sole purpose that I was not local to Waco despite my entire family being local and despite my long history with rescuing and caring for pets and with my long term vet recommendation. The whole reason they want locality is to continue control of the animal post adoption. They rejected several of my friends for not having over 2 years vet history as well. On top of insane adoption fees, the level of control is not normal for a private rescue operation and the length of time they hold pets while undergoing their arbitrary review process that they ultimately end up making their decision based on personal bias and opinion rather than the very history they claim to base their decision off of. It took nearly 2 weeks with zero communication before they told me they approved out the dog I applied for to someone local. I called every day and emailed asking for any updates prior to that, and got strung around with being told to try calling tomorrow. Try calling tomorrow. Try calling tomorrow we’ll have an answer for you soon. Try calling tomorrow. Joke of an organization that puts profit and ego stroking with the excuse of ethical standards over the animal. To warrant background checks and vet history checks is one thing, to continually string costumers around and unnecessarily hold animals in a shelter environment at the detriment of their mental health and behavioral well being is another. It is entirely possible for ethics to become unethical when it turns from ensuring best home placement into a power dynamic where the director (who is rarely at the shelter I found out) enjoys having the final say so in being the all knowing all mighty decider regardless of the amount of hoops jumped through and background history passed and dedication of a costumer to be willing to go through a 4 page application package and sign rights to allow these people to access vet records and visit your home at any point post adoption. Amazing waste of time, insult to animal lovers and rescuers, and absolute joke and scam of a so called rescue. Be warned that adopting from this organization does not free the animal of their control as one of the clauses signed is they maintain the right to regain custody of the animal for any reason at any point in the animal’s life, which is part of the reason why they want adopters to remain within local area to ensure control at all times.
I went to go see a dog they had that I was very interested in...did my spoke to the women there explaining my situation. I called back only to find out set my application was not approved. I asked to speak with someone who could explain why. When the gentleman told me it was because on my application it said it said I had a pitbull I said yes but you guys never even came here to meet her for us. She is a gentle dog very loving and was beautiful with my little dog that I did have in the past who has since passed away. We wanted to get another little dog for myself for several reasons for me as an emotional support dog and also for a companion for Tank 😥. I feel that they don't give you a chance to see where the pup would go and to see if it would be a good fit. I feel that they are very judgemental whatever happened to giving a chance do not only the dogs but to the people to. They say they want to find homes for all of these dogs but yet they make it so hard to do so. A very unhappy lady.

This place is a joke! People adopt a pet not a project rehabilitation dog. They put a price on a dog for adoption that is 100% unadoptable. Taco, was born there and has lived in a crate there since birth for 18 months and could not adapt to our home for 3 weeks! We could not get him to eat, other than a few treats, we could not get him to potty outside, we could not get him to warm up to us. We have adopted one dog from them before, and he was a puppy, and still doing great at our home. We raised one dog until he was very old and frail and we had to put him down due to Cushings. We are good dog owners, but they treat people like we are supposed to be adopting a pet to rehabilitate them, when they should have been already to be adopted. He was not an adoptable pet. They struggled to give us our money back and we are permanently "black listed" from adopting from them. I turned around and got a wonderful rescue from the Central Texas Human Society. They did me a favor by denying my app.
the front office staff are so rude and standoffish. it’s like they don’t even want you to adopt. it takes daaaays to hear back about an application and after I visited the cat I wanted multiple days in a row, asked so many questions about them and talked to the staff about how interested I was they still denied me??? the owner has a clear bias to dogs. I would rate this place negative stars if I could.
