I chose to cover the fosters name, because I’m a pretty considerate and thoughtful person. That being said I’ll just jump right in with this review—I believe the Leon County Humane Society should create new rules about the adoption/fostering process. If you tell someone (or to be specific, PROMISE someone) that you’ll be in contact with them, keep your word. It doesn’t matter if you have 50 applications for one pet, if you know you won’t or can’t be in contact with each person to follow through with contact on whether or not they’ll be able to adopt the pet then don’t be a foster parent. I’m not upset that I wasn’t able to adopt the specific dog I was interested in as there are millions of dogs/cats in need at different shelters. However I dislike when people DO NOT KEEP THEIR WORD. If you cannot call, email, text, whatever don’t tell me that you will or surely don’t promise me. Simple. Write it on a sticky note, put it on your calendar, whatever you need to but do not make a promise you cannot keep. It’s just bad for business and very NEGLIGENT as a foster in my opinion. I’m sure the Leon County Humane Society staff chooses not to say anything or get involved in the communication process between applicants and fosters, but they should consider it or making sure the foster parents are treating EVERYONE fairly not just who they THINK will be the best fit for a pet who they haven’t even spoke to or got to know or let the dog meet. Just as much as you find it important to find a pet a suitable home it’s also important to us, the people who are looking to adopt and take animals in need to have the same respect and communication because without us… where would the animals go? Just something to think about. I’m sure the fosters are aware the pet(s) will go to another home eventually so ensure that each person at least gets the opportunity to hear from you almost immediately after the application is put in within 1-2 days AND if you should decide to choose another applicant for the dog/cat/etc. I believe that’ll be the most courteous and considerate thing to do as fosters & someone from the Humane Society should advocate for that to take place don’t you think? It takes nothing to create a generic prompt stating “Hi, it’s blah thank you for your interest in blah unfortunately we have decided to proceed with another applicant for blah, but don’t worry we have so many other pets available if you’re interested, etc etc.” It could all be so simple. That’s all. Hope you guys will improve with the communication some day. Stay blessed!
I'm not sure what kind of "Humane Society" or "Rescue" facility this is supposed to be, but it is ran completely out of order. I had a very bad experience trying to do the responsible thing and Adopt instead of shop, but this experience has left a bad taste in my mouth. I put in an adoption application for a puppy and was told that the foster would contact me with more information. Several days go by and nobody has even given me an update and I see the puppy I applied for listed as recently adopted. I decided to message the LCHS facility via facebook to try to clear up the confusion. I let them know that nobody has contacted me or even given me an update about the puppy. I had to find out on my own terms that the puppy I was interested in had been adopted. I was then told that they are not responsible for contacting anyone, it is the foster parents job to do so. I was also told that they let somebody else adopt the puppy because they were a "homeowner" and listed a vet on their adoption application. I was told they would have to verify with my renter that I am allowed to have another dog as well as make sure my current dog was up to date on vaccines. Those kind of things are absolutely no problem at all but the issue was nobody took the time to tell me or ask me about any of that information. I found it extremely distasteful to tell me someone else is a better fit for a puppy because they own their home instead of rent it. Not everyone is able to purchase a house, nor does that dictate whether someone is capable to care for a puppy. As long as the dog is going to a loving family it shouldn't matter if someone rents or owns their home. I have never heard of a humane society operating in this manner and overall the adoption process at this facility is extremely careless.
We just adopted Scotty from LCHS and foster mom Martha Walton. He is full of joy and compatible with our other pups because of the care Mrs. Walton gave him as he waited for his adoption. She gave us perfect advice, directions, guidance, and suggestions to make his transition smooth and perfect. We couldn’t be happier. And many thanks for Lisa Glunt who happily completed the paperwork on a day when the LCHS is usually closed.
Thank you Martha for fostering Milo! He’s the sweetest miniature poodle I’ve ever met. He’s very happy and healthy, and loves going swimming with me. The adoption process was very easy and I’m so glad Milo got to come home with me. I’ve had him for over a month now and he’s just perfect, and he loves other dogs.
They failed to care about animal abuse going on at Casa Bella hotel. Cats, dogs with matted hair in cages in hotel rooms, dogs living in a car - the Casa Bella hotel at 2850 Apalachee Pkwy. on Tallahassee. The lady leaves them barking in her car for long periods of time, the lady that answered the call wanted to know the callers name, stating it was ok! Extended periods of time in the heat, barking without any food! The emergency number has a lady, female who doesn't care about the animals, stated that doing this is a-ok to do continually on a regular basis! She, the call taker of abuse wanted to rather investigate who the caller was.
Best Humane Society ever! I love all of their fun events, the staff, and the board members. They treat their animals as if they were they very own pets, with love and kindness. This is a wonderful place to volunteer and a fantastic place to find your next best animal friend!
