I adopted two kitties through PAAW over the years. The first one (Cristen) was a senior kitty who was going through kidney failure. I applied to adopt her before they knew the severity of her health. Once learning this, PAAW offered to let me “hospice foster” meaning they would still be paying for her care while she got to live through the end of her life with me. While thankful for that option, I declined and adopted her anyways. I felt a connection to her and she was one of the best cats I’ve ever had, even in just knowing her a few months. Moved by this experience, I fostered through PAAW and then foster failed (adopted) on a second kitty who is happy and healthy as can be. Yes, the adoption process is extensive and thorough but it is to ensure good health and safety to all of the pets who they adopt out. Those who do not devote their life to rescuing of animals most likely haven’t seen and experienced some of the worst situations where animals were abused, neglected, abandoned etc. I think some would understand why they put so much into approving adopters if they saw what the selfless individuals who represent PAAW have seen. Thanks for everything PAAW!
I fostered for this rescue and i will likely do it again. I had a mama and her kittens and everyone was successfully adopted. :) They are up to date on all vaccines, chipped and fixed prior to being adopted out. Everyone i worked with during the first round of fostering was great. They do SO much.
This rescue is fully volunteer run. They truly care about the animals and work hard to ensure that they are well cared for while they’re being fostered. The application process is extensive to keep the animals safe and make sure they end up in the right home. Some of these reviews complain about “poor customer service” without realizing the customers here are the animals! I understand it’s frustrating not to get a call back sometimes but please be mindful that the volunteer who would normally make that call might be out removing animals from a hoarder situation or accompanying them to an emergency vet appointment. It’s not ideal but it happens, especially in a situation where everything is provided by volunteers.
I've adopted from Pet Adoption Alternative of Warren multiple times and I don't think there's a more caring and knowledgeable group of animal rescue workers anywhere. And I say that as someone who has volunteered with other rescue organizations in the past. They may be unpaid but they do good work!
I recently encountered a very pleasant older cat at Pet Smart and completed the application process. However, I felt it necessary to reach out to them as the cat was lacking a name and there were limited details available. I can confirm that the cat exhibited a very sweet demeanor and I found it to be one of the most compatible companions for me, considering my anxiety. Despite making three separate calls, I have received no response. It would be greatly appreciated if I could be provided with an update on the status of my application, as other providers typically offer timely communication regarding such matters. I am eagerly anticipating a response and hopeful that I will be able to establish a connection with the cat in the near future. And please , work on that phone. There’s no reason why a line should be off the hook ALL DAY.
PAAW rescue is an outstanding group run 100% by volunteers who also work full time jobs and have families. Some of the reviews I see here are calling PAAW "staff" inattentive. It is sad that people who do not understand how most nonprofit groups operate are saying negative things about those that truly care enormously and who go to great lengths to do right by animals. At PAAW - there is no staff, no shelter, every email and response to inquiries comes from someone's donated time. It is often a thankless job - so I want to acknowledge and thank those that take the time to care. <3
