Our hearts will forever be grateful for the love and care the doctors and students at the University of Illinois Veterinary Teaching Hospital gave our dog, Duke, in his last few hours. They worked tirelessly to determine the cause of his high fever and inconsistent heartbeat, showing a level of dedication that brought us great comfort during such a difficult time. The team performed an EKG and discovered that Duke had a heart infection, which came on suddenly and, sadly, could not be treated with antibiotics quickly enough. While we lost our beloved Duke, we take solace in knowing he was in the hands of such compassionate and skilled professionals. Thank you for everything you did for him.

The best care for your animals. My service dog ripped open her paws and was bleeding out. I rushed her in without even a collar and the critical care people immediately got her as we arrived. The entire team, the doctor, social worker, front desk people, and door personnel, were ALL OUTSTANDING yesterday and into this morning. I am so thankful for such amazing care for my "baby". This was our second visit and they are always incredible. Top notch service. A+

CRUEL TO REPTILES. We brought in our bearded dragon who had prolapsed 2nd time this week. Her body was rejecting the organ and we had been informed by the previous vet (who was no longer open) that this would be an ongoing issue. It wasn't fair to put her through that, and we brought her in knowing we wouldn't be taking her home. We were there overnight. We made it very clear from the get-go and stated several times why we were there. We sat in the waiting room for 3 hours before someone came out just to tell us there was no update. I explained to the front desk workers (who were very kind, compassionate, empathetic, and understanding throughout the entire process) there is no update needed and we would just like to see her one more time before saying goodbye. They called in someone who brought us back for that purpose but 2 hours later I found myself flagging down every staff member I could because nobody came. I explained as best as I could that she was suffering with an internal organ hanging out of her body and she hadn't properly been cared for in any way - even just to ease her comfort, and on top of that was out of her heat tank for the longest time (I don't remember if I mentioned the heat tank to staff). Even if they didn't know what to do, they could have at least googled what to do, which would have told them to keep her moisturized. They didn't. So she sat there for 5 hours drying out and probably rotting and becoming more uncomfortable as a result on top of getting ignored. There was no sense of urgency or compassion whatsoever aside from the front desk workers. The doctor stated she had 15 patients, though there were only 2 people in the waiting room the last time I sought help, and a couple who brought their cat in after we brought in our beardie said their goodbyes before we did. The front desk workers told us this should have been priority and apologized so many times for the experience. On top of the suffering this caused her, this really messed with us emotionally. They'd come out and talk to us, get us riled up and then leave for extended periods of time so we'd eventually cool down just to do it again. Talk about constantly opening up wounds! We didn't like how the doctor handled it either, she seemed very unwilling to entertain the thought of doing the humane thing and we had to repeat several times that this is goodbye, and we're not subjecting her to a lifetime of further prolapse/surgery/emergency care/stress/organ rejection/risk of infection/medication. We were there overnight unnecessarily and are both missing work now due to lack of sleep, but the worst part is knowing that our sweet girl was suffering far more than she should have in her final moments. Rest in peace, baby girl. I'm so sorry this happened to you. Everyone else, please don't take your reptiles here. They deserve so much better. And if they experience a prolapse the most important thing you can do until care is available is to keep the organ moisturized. If I could give 0 stars I would, but the front desk workers deserve some credit here so I guess 1 star is fair.

This place is awful. Been here twice, and both times were over 10 hours. Came in most recently for a severely mangled paw on my kitty. Every other case was apparently more severe. Saw several dogs walk in and out on their own accord. Both times never got the care that was promised. Don't know what they are teaching their students here, but it is not good veterinary care. Would not recommend to anyone. Go somewhere else, if you can.

Screw this hospital hard! I go in at 8:30am to get my dog some help with her breathing and we were out into a room and left there for 2 hours and then someone turns off the lights. Totally forgot about us or just decided every other case was more important. There were two cars in the parking lot including mine so I’m not so sure why NOBODY ever came to check on us. We’re we’re not treated right at this place and I hope we never need their “help” again.

Last weekend we had to say goodbye to our precious guinea pig Moo Moo Cow. She suddenly declined one day, though she was 8 years old with an ovarian tumor. We took her into the emergency clinic and they brought her to the back immediately. Her sudden decline was very concerning, and I'm glad they took the issue seriously. Unfortunately, in the end, we decided on euthanasia. It was heartbreaking, but the staff had the best bedside manner, were sensitive and empathetic, and were SO supportive in the process. She passed peacefully and without any pain it seemed. The vet was kind, gentle, and careful with the procedure. Afterward, they gave us a little clay mold of her paw prints. I am SO amazed at how thoughtful they are for this! I was way too hysterical to even think about asking for that, but they did it free of charge without me asking. Sent us home with a card filled with sweet messages too. They really gave us the best possible experience for such an upsetting, difficult event. Their efforts made ALL the difference in our grieving process--which is crucial. I can't thank them enough.
