Staff were very knowledgeable about all the cats there! Very clean, all animals seemed to be in good health/spirits, or being provided very good care. It is true you have to view photos of dogs before you meet them. Personally, this is amazing, I've been to so many places that just let people wander through, and the dogs are stressed, constantly barking/growling. Here, I only heard them bark a few times, and from what I could see from the outside, they have their own areas, another difference compared to places that just put a chain fence. Animals are happy, I'm happy, all around a good visit 💜
Walked in to see the workers all up front around a desk. They looked at me like I was an alien, when finally someone asked if the could help me. I told them I would like to see the dogs, at that point I was informed that nobody is allowed in back to see the dogs, but they have a wall of the dogs pictures of them. Having worked at an animal shelter years ago, it shocked me to hear that. How can you connect with a dog seeing just a pic? Of course if you like the picture they will bring the dog out, but seeing the dogs in person would have been nice. Please comment if you think this is right. Alice Nelson
Would highly recommend Stephen Memorial Animal Shelter if you are planning on adopting.
This was the first time I've been in the new building. The dog we went to see was gorgeous! Had she been a couple years older we would have brought her home. I loved the room we met the pup and introduced the dogs in. Terry was exceptional! My special needs son was a bit overstimulated and Terry was so understanding of our situation. We got our current dog from this shelter, previously and he's been an incredible addition to our family.
Adopted the sweetest little gal kitty! Adapting fantastic to her new home! Update on 9/2/2021...Sunshine aka Munchkin has officially taken over my house!! Just so happy she allows me to live here!!😻
My cat was wrongfully placed at this shelter 1 year ago and I’ve finally been able to track him to this shelter. I know he’s probably adopted by now, he’s a white and orange cat, would been be about 4 years old now. He was my SUPPORT ANIMAL that my ex guardians gave to the shelter a day before kicking me out of their house. He has a light orange circle on both of his sides (in the already orange fur) and a white belly. Greenish-orange eyes. Super spunky and has a lot of character. His name is Jack.
