We adopted our Lady Bo from here. All of the dogs looked great and well taken care of in their kennels. The staff were all welcoming and helpful. We live in Asheville, so the dog we adopted had to ride in the car with us for a few hours before we got home - so they gave her a bath before handing her over?! Wow!!! Also the adoption came with dog treats, toys, a collar & leash! Pretty nice! And our very shy Bo has really come out of her shell in the past 3 months. In response to another review about heartworm positive dog adoption: I was told beforehand that Bo had not been tested for heartworms. Heartworm treatment can easily exceed $1,000 (I know from 2 other dogs in my life.) Bo did not have heartworms. I have included a heat map of heartworm infection rates. As you can see, Orangeburg is in an area of high prevalence of heartworms. As for intestinal parasites, I would imagine that Orangeburg’s warm temperatures and relative proximity to the ocean would mean a high rate of intestinal parasites also. But these are usually highly treatable at a low cost. If the heartworm is a major concern for you, come up to Asheville and get a dog from the humane society here. There is a low rate of infection and I think they test. Also adoptions here are also free. I couldn’t find a dog I wanted at Asheville Humane, which is why I ended up adopting my Bo Lady at the Orangeburg SPCA. I hope that helps.
I loved the experience.. It was only @ the yard sale... But they were attentive & offered advice no matter if u buy or donate.. They understand animal lovers... Which I truly am... Helped me Soo much & my day was good...mainly bc of them... Special people!👍
Two years ago I went here in search for my first dog. The staff and everyone was so incredible in helping me find my fur baby. I went with a few dogs in mind off of their website. After seeing a few dogs my heart was set on one dog named trisket. I can’t thank the SPCA and staff enough for allowing me to adopt my sweet boy.
We adopted a wonderful dog at the Orangeburg, SPCA this dog is an exceptional dog and we love him very much. When we took Buddy to the vet we found that he had intestinal worms and also tested positive for Heartworms. The vet bill so far has been over $1000! I suggest that anyone adopting a dog from any SPCA be sure to ask if the dog has been tested for worms and they specially Heartworms, the heartworm treatment is very difficult for the dog, and after three days of treatment, he must now be kept in a small area, only to go outside in our yard as necessary he’s not allowed to go for walks or anything active for four weeks. ! Again, it’s going to be a long four weeks with no box. Does he love some. So be sure to check about worms and especially the heart worms. Sincerely Todd Stetson. PS, while at the vets picking up my boy, I was talking to a man that turned out. He had also adopted a small dog from the same Orangeburg, SPCA and his dog also was in for worms and heart worms the tested positive, so this is not a one situation. Heartworms are extreme Lee transferable to other dogs kept in the same areas. I think the SPCA should test all animals prior to letting people adopt them or change in their procedures.
My husband and I recently lost our first dog together due to some medical issues. A coworker of mine sang the praises of Orangeburg SPCA since he has adopted his last three dogs from them. Initially I was interested in an adorable puppy who was ultimately adopted by its foster family but we decided to still go see what dogs they had available. We met an adorable not so little guy who was about 3-4 months who was friendly and sweet. Within a few days he became ours and we are now his furever home. Despite being short staffed Ali did her best to keep us updated and to answer any and all questions she had before the big day. She made sure he got a bath and had all of her paperwork in order when we arrived to pick him up on Saturday (01/06/2023). It is obvious how much Ali and the other staff/volunteers love these sweet animals and how much they want to find good homes for them. Overall it was a wonderful process. Bringing home a new pup has not eased the pain of loss but it is so nice to be able to give a new guy love and affection. Thank you so much Orangeburg SPCA <3
Oreo is our new addition to our family. She became Sharptooth new playmate and they love each other lol. And love sleeping like this.
