Description Founded in 1869 as the First Animal Shelter and Adoptions Program in America, Women's Animal Center offers a variety of services to the Greater Philadelphia region, including dog training classes, physical rehabilitation, and humane education programs. We assist thousands of animals in need every year through our adoption, fostering and lost and found programs. As part of our nonprofit mission, Women's Animal Center provides high-quality, low-cost veterinary care to families in need, striving to make pet ownership affordable and helping to keep animals in their homes and out of shelters. All proceeds raised through veterinary service fees support the shelter of the stray, abandoned and abused animals under Women's Animal Center's care.

Very clean and everyone was friendly. I even saw a cousin coming out! The dogs kennels were clean. There was a cute shepherd puppy in there, if I didn't have my hands full with an aggressive dog at home I would have placed an application in for her. She was really sweet and calm even though most of the dogs were going nuts!

Only place that would fit me in for my feral cat. You guys don’t know how much I appreciate that. I tried bridge, and forgotten cats and I couldn’t see anyone for weeks. The nurse and the vet were also very nice to our cat.

These guys were absolutely fantastic. I've had a pretty hectic schedule these past few weeks and they accommodated me every step of the way. They were kind and respectful and helpful. I purchased a puppy with a spay through the WAC so this was the first time I ever worked with them, and it was a pleasure. If I didn't live so far away I'd probably switch to them over my current vet.

Adopted my best friend, Chase, from Women's Animal Center in 2013. Everyone was very nice and the animals all looked to be well cared for. We found out pretty quick that Chase had some food sensitivities and the vet on staff was very helpful with giving us food suggestions. Chase is an old man now but still the best dog. I would absolutely adopted from here again

I’ve always knew the humane society was very helpful and staff was always pleasant. Yesterday I called to have my precious little cat euthanized with very late notice and they were able to fit me in at 9am. When I arrived at 845- I explained that my little cat had very little time, if we just have someone see her to help make her comfortable. The woman at the desk explained staff wasn’t in yet but she would ask the vet if he would see her. About 5-10 minutes later she came back out and did not say a word to us- simply ignored my son and I as we stood in front of the desk. I realized after about 10 minutes they were not going to help us and my little cat was not going to make it. I retreated to a quiet area in the waiting room where my little girl passed away😢😢😢. Honestly there wasn’t much they could have done- but she simply ignored us😢😢 not even a”no the vet won’t see you”. As I reflect today I can only think how much a little empathy could have gone. I was visibly quite upset but it didn’t matter. Staff acted as if we weren’t even there 😢😢😢

If I could give 0 stars and still get a chance to share our story, I would. A friend of mine in law enforcement brought a stray dog to the shelter. I went to visit him the next day because we were very interested but they didn't take visitors until after the holding period (understandable). After the holding period we went to meet the dog as we were very interested, filled out an application and waited 45 minutes prior to an adoption specialist taking us to their office where they told us we couldn't meet the dog unless we had our other dog with us. We shared that we would like to meet him to make sure we were a fit before stressing our other dog that doesn't travel well and then the additional stress of him having to wait 45 minutes prior to meeting a new dog in a strange place. We were then advised the earliest we could come back to meet the dog with our other dog would be Tuesday. I called ahead of time and no one answered or got back to me- since we work, we were unable to change our plans and didn't want to wait with our dog and then be turned away again. So today we attempted to call ahead of time to confirm we could bring our dog and meet this dog only to be told that he had just been adopted. I'm happy for the dog as he was very sweet and I hope he got a great home- however I will NEVER be looking to rescue an animal from this backwards shelter and would advise others to explore other rescues.
