Clean as a whistle! Seriously, this place has the highest standards. Dogs are treated like royalty. Such an important commerce for our community! Thank you Brian and Wanda
Dogs for Better Lives is the best non profit organization I have ever worked with! I am now on the waiting list for a hearing dog. Dogs for Better Lives communication is excellent. They always get back to me right away.
I applied for a hearing assistance dog. I went though the paperwork and had my interview. They told me a month ago that I had been accepted to receive one of their dogs. This is good, considering I’m completely deaf without the aid of cochlear implants, and even with cochlear implants only do so much. Then the other day, they tell me that they will not give me a dog, without any explanation of reasons why. It couldn’t have been based on my disability, as that is what hearing dogs are for. It couldn’t have been based on vet concerns as I have proven veterinary care for the two cats present here (and there are no other animals in the house and they say they do not deny if you have cats). There’s literally no other potentially negative I can think of, much less one for denial. This is starting to look to me like a wishy-washy organization.
Dogs for the Deaf provided me with a wonderful hearing service dog in 2001 who lived to be 15 years old. After the mourning period they provided me with a new dog. The entire staff is very supportive, helpful and a pleasure to communicate with. They have been in business since 1977. I wish I'd known about them sooner, since my hearing loss was at five years old. They rescue dogs from shelters and train them and match them up with the right person to make wonderful teams. They depend on donations and fundraisers so if you don't know whom to raise funds for, they are a terrific candidate!
VERY misleading information on ADI. Also, they do not provide Autism service dogs to adults which is very unprofessional and ableist as adults can also be disabled by their autism. If they truly do care about helping autistic individuals, they should expand the program to provide autism dogs to adults or at least older children and teens.
Very unorganized. Left me sitting outside the gate.. when had a scheduled meeting. I was told they were out ill... nobody call to cancel.. I called and left multiple messages before I headed out for a 30 minute drive both ways..
