Our cat started having trouble breathing around 10:30pm on a holiday. Staff (shout out to Nico) were friendly, understanding, and helpful. It's expensive, and the wait is long, but that is to be expected at an Emergency Veterinarian Clinic with only one vet and a few techs. Nico and Dr. Josh were great! Lil' Smokey is thankful that they helped him breathe easier.
Took my 2 year old dog in around 3:30 am for what looked like a possible intestinal blockage. A tech checked her heart rate, respiration, temperature, and gums. I then sat there for over 2.5 hours, only be checked on once in that time by the tech. Another tech came in as it was nearing 6am. The vet was busy with another patient and the emergency clinic was getting ready to close. She gave me two options: stay and hope Hilltop Veterinary Clinic could fit us in, warning that they normally didn’t see non-client patients until after lunch, or try to get her into our usual vet, which is in Pekin, when they opened at 7:30. I opted for my normal vet, because I’ve never had issues with them, and they were able to get my dog in as soon as they opened. She’s having X-rays and bloodwork done and they are keeping her for observation and possible surgery. I sure hope the emergency clinic might have had a bit of urgency with my dog if she had been in really bad condition when I brought her in, but the complete lack of concern, or to not even run any tests or do an xray while waiting on a veterinarian, could have had what is still a serious issue with my dog, turning into a much bigger emergency. Thankfully my dog was relatively stable enough, while still having some serious issues, to handle me wasting almost four hours of my time, half a tank of gas, and whole lot of freaking out, while I tried to get her into our normal vet as soon as possible. Next time there’s an emergency, I will skip Bloomington’s clinic and drive straight to Champaign, which would’ve taken less time than what I spent sitting in Bloomington’s room with my sick dog this morning.
My cat had not been eating or drinking for several days, and was throwing up bile for quite a while. The doctor and tech were very nice and explained everything they would be doing. They were also upfront and honest about cost, and suggested certain treatments and diagnostic testing they thought I could skip (only if I wanted) to help with the cost. Since the clinic works like a human ER, critical patients are seen first, so I did end up waiting a little over two hours to see the doc since my lil guy was stable and they were fairly busy (Sunday afternoon). However, I was okay with that since it meant they were taking care animals who were more sick than my cat. So glad we have this clinic in the area, because I did not want to wait until Monday afternoon to take my cat in to his primary vet!
We brought our sweet old girl in AS she was passing away not knowing what else to do for her pain. The staff was so kind and caring and let us know when she had fully passed on and tried their best to tell us what happened. Sent us home with a clay paw print too. Wonderful facility with wonderful people.
Staff nice caring and patient when came in at 3am to put my best friend/child down after he had his last fall and couldn't get back up. He was my world my big baby. He is missed and always be with me.
We are so thankful for those that worked the holiday. The team helped to put us at ease and provided us with our options. Greatly appreciate everything explained and expectations set. Thank you again for helping our little guy.
