I filled out an application on Petfinders. I was the first person to apply, I was told that they wanted to see if the kitten would get along with other cats (I had a cat at home). They told me to call back in 10 days, I asked clearly if I was still the first person to be considered and Bob assured me I was. The next day I am on Petfinders and the kitten has been adopted. They did not have the kindness to contact me and they led me on and lied! The woman I spoke with said my application had “red flags” I have had pets my whole life and take really hood care of all my pets. Very untrustworthy organizations!

A couple weeks ago I had a great experience with this rescue! I was interested in a particular dog and the staff there took the time to walk her with me and sat and talked to me for a while. After I applied they followed up with a phone call and were very responsive through email to discuss her specific needs with me, which proved to me that they really care about finding the right fit for more difficult-to-place pets. They were in touch with me every step of the way. Although I ultimately did not get approved for the adoption, they even took the time to follow up with an email explaining their reasoning. In the end, this experience really helped me reevaluate my specific needs for a dog to ultimately find the right fit, and I was touched by how much effort they put in as a team to make sure their animals go to the best homes. Overall a very personal experience with them. Their cats and dogs are very lucky to have people who truly care!

My best friend, who is not internet savvy so I'm posting this, adopted a kitten from Community Cats. The lady who runs this organization was late most times they met and once didn't show at all. My friend was introduced to a young, energetic kitten. When she went about a week later to pick it up, the kitten turned out to be quite sick and also underage (not at all acceptable) and was identified as the wrong sex (it happens when so young). My friend then had to pay out of pocket for tons of tests and treatment, only a small portion was reimbursed by this organization. We've never been able to understand the vetting this kitten received, especially when it so appeared lethargic. The kitten will likely have a shortened life span due to the health issues but is now being properly cared for and is growing into a handsome young cat, no thanks to Community Cats. While I don't want to see the cats be trapped there, I'd have to recommend a more reputable rescue/adoption org such as Pets Alive or Mid-Hudson Animal Aid. Whatever you do, Don't Shop, Adopt!

This "shelter" is just short of a hoarding situation. The litter boxes and floors are filthy, the rooms are stacked with cages and dirty blankets, and the cats are forced to live next to dozens of dogs who bark like they're being tormented. I think the owner meant well when she started the shelter, but she is in over her head. Someone needs to shut this place down.
