Description “Gentle Care” is the philosophy upon which our hospital was founded: compassion combined with a pursuit of excellence in medical and surgical care for your pet. Dr. Marguerite Ermeling opened Gentle Care Animal Hospital in 1986, intent on creating a full-service veterinary hospital. Gentle Care is the only animal hospital in the region treating exotic pets, such as reptiles, birds, and small mammals, as well as cats and dogs for over 27 years.

I just wanted to say Thank You to Gentle Care Animal Hospital, especially Jessie. Thank you for taking such great care of Stormy. On the day of her spay, I was so nervous for my cat and her well-being but Jessie was very informative, patient an7/helped calm me down. I’m so happy there’s someone like her on your staff. I couldn’t be more happy and feel grateful knowing a place nearby cares for animals as they do. 1/9/2024 Recently adopted a rescue dog and again I chose Gentle Care and they were amazing! He isn’t yet socialized with dogs and they were very caring to ensure his safety and the safety of other animals which may have been in the lobby at that time. He’s a big boy and I love how they handled him, again very informative staff. Lots of love from the staff. It’s a big relief to know that the people at Gentle Care really do care about your animals and they don’t treat them as just another dog or cat.

I’ve been so happy with the care my dog has received from Gentle Care! The staff I have had the pleasure of meeting has been super kind and helpful to us on two occasions where we needed a last-minute appointment and vet care. I truly feel like the staff cares about the animals they’re working with, and I am so appreciative of the kindness and patience they use when communicating with me and answering my questions. After trying a few different vets around Lawrence, I can confidently say that I will keep going back to Gentle Care and recommend this office to anyone looking for a provider.

Gentle Care is aptly named for this animal clinic. A little smaller operation, it does not feel like a factory or production line when it comes to their furry clients. They truly give gentle care and attention to each animal. We are extremely pleased with the treatment our pets have received at Gentle Care.

The whole staff is extremely competent and have gone out of their way to provide exceptional treatment to my pets for over 10 yrs. I had a bull mastiff that was given a better quality of life due to services that aren’t normally available at other vets (acupuncture and EMS). Their customer service is off the charts! They made me feel like family.

We have been bringing our animals to Gentle Care since we moved here (2001) and have seen it pass to new ownership. Now we live on a farm out in the county with multiple cats, dogs, and chickens. We wouldn't bring our fuzzy family to anyone else. These are veterinarians who get down on the floor, eye to eye (or eye to whatever), and treat our furry loved ones with respect, kind words, and a treat -- just as we do.

This review is long overdue but especially after our visit today I just need to leave a rave review for the entire Gentle Care Animal Hospital team. All three of our dogs have required acute care this year and they have been nothing short of amazing in each situation. They helped triage emergent care for our Australian cattle dog with a fractured toe, they got us in immediately on a Saturday morning when our senior Akita mix was experiencing excruciating pain from arthritis, and this morning they were able to see our elderly dachshund with a toe injury. From the moment they answer the phone they treat your pet as their own. The vet techs are kind and understanding. Dr. Bruner is the best, I wouldn’t take our dogs anywhere else. Thank you for your compassionate and excellent care.
