This “ santuary” is a sad place for horses. While the animals do look well fed…They have just one fenced in area for the horses…. No grass what-so-ever, no shade what-so-ever and not one tree for them to hide under or scratch they backs. When I was there they had about 20 horses and I was told they all were given to them in 2009 during the recession when people couldn’t afford them any longer. I was also told that there are no trails on the property.. so nowhere to actually ride except the barren corrals or the front yard that isn’t fenced. I was there to volunteer and there were two women sitting in the porch of the house when I arrived. They never came down to say hello or introduce themselves. When I wrote to Petal to tell her how concerned I was about the horses being completely exposed to the elements year round… she suggested that I make a donation to build them a barn. That was over a year ago. I was told that they have not taken in any animals since 2009 and that the horses they got during the recession were not abused or sick… they were just handed over by owners who couldn’t keep them any more. I don’t know if they make any efforts to adopt them out… I don’t see anything about that on their website. When I think about this place and those animals… it just makes me sad

10/10 would recommend. Everyone at the barn is super kind and patient. The horses are well taken care of. And it's very exciting to go there, they don't force you to come which is absolutely amazing!!!

I went out to volunteer at this rescue not too long ago. The two young ladies who showed me the ropes were very sweet and welcoming! All the horses looked very well cared for with plenty of hay to eat! After a bit of helping around i met the owner. Mrs Petal, she was super nice and told me some interesting stories about the horses and their mule! I will definitely be going back! Also they do free riding lessons if you volunteer for 4 hours! So this is definitely the place to go!!!
