We adopted our new baby at the Houston Mega Adoption Event this past weekend. The staff and volunteers from this shelter were all great! We were looking for a sibling for our cat and we fell in love with Yeti the second we saw him. He's now up to his ears in cat nip mice and loves his new cat tree!

My husband saw a declawed kitty on this website and told me. I was so happy because I had been looking for awhile. We drove over to Brenham and a nice gal named Holly introduced us to " River" a declawed, 5 year old Tuxedo cat. I felt a connection right away. They allowed us to take him out on a trial and by the end of that week, I KNEW he was the one! The ladies at the Brenham Animal Services were very friendly and cordial. The facility was clean and bright. It was a great experience and I love my new cat, renamed Kitsy, so much. He is my special furever friend.

We adopted a dog last Friday. It is Monday. Dog has been extremely lethargic and declining since we adopted. At the vet today we found something lodged in his intestines. Surgery will be happening tomorrow to hopefully save the dog. Family is already in love him, myself included. Seems extremely unlikely he ate something since we got him, but can only be about 99% sure. Not certain. Realizing there's no way we're going to know exactly when this happened, I figured I'd swing by and talk to the staff at the shelter. I spoke to the lady that managed the place. I was met with an attitude lacking any kind of empathy toward the situation whatsoever. She stated that bc we adopted the dog straight up, and did not choose to do their probationary period, that their lawyers had this situation all wrapped up w their paperwork. Nobody explained that the shelter would cover unforseen illnesses if I did the probationary period. It's just checking a different box, literally. I'm sure she is correct about the paperwork. No point in even looking. I told her as much. The rest of the conversation was explaining to someone not interested in any point of view other than her own, that there's a difference between right and wrong versus legaleze and what lawyers arrange, law, etc. She indicated this situation has NEVER happened before, and they've NEVER paid to help anyone in a similar situation. It never will if you catch the inference. This was the 2nd time adopting a dog here. Obviously we'd choose to go elsewhere in the future. My advice to anybody utilizing this shelter is to realize they have a cutthroat attitude towards money. Read what they give you. Its purpose is to relieve them of any responsibility and nothing else. It's intentional. They are not interested in being amicable, fair, or anything of the kind. I guess in 2024 we see this kind of thing even at a non-profit institution. Greed. Makes it even worse that it's tax payer funded. That's us.

This is a great facility! Brenham is lucky to have such a place. Clean and new, fantastically friendly staff! And the adoption fees are not bad considering everything they include...vaccinations, micro chip, etc. We adopted a small dog from them back in June and couldn't be more pleased. They post their pets online, so you can see what is available at any time. Dealt mostly with Robin, and she was great! Can't imagine why a few people gave them such a low rating (no explanations were given by these reviewers) but as a city animal shelter and part of animal control, they have a hard job, but they do it well and with professionalism.
