Liz Morgan is one of the most caring and professional Shelter Directors that I know. Her mission is to place the shelter animals with compatible families. She understands the behavior and personalities of the animals, and knows the best match between the animals and the families. When I came to the shelter, my intention was to volunteer just to keep in contact with dogs, because my two sibling dogs of 15 years had passed. However, after discussing my loss with Ms. Morgan, she knew she had the right dog for me to help ease my sorrow. She was absolutely right and matched me with the perfect dog. As a volunteer, and a woman of color, I have observed how Ms. Morgan manages the shelter. She is friendly to everyone that enters the shelter, and is very knowledgeable about how to manage a shelter. She treats her staff, the volunteers, and everyone that comes to the shelter with professionalism and respect. Since Montclair is a diversified town, Ms. Morgan promotes diversity and treats everyone equally. I think all of the shelter animals and Montclair Township is very fortunate to have Liz Morgan as their Shelter Director.
I felt it important enough to publicly post a review for the Montclair township shelter under Liz Morgan's direction as it is very well run and it is clear that the needs and the "fit" of the animals there who are being offered for adoption are paramount to any fickle desires of adopting parents. In our family's first introduction to the shelter, we had received a call from a team member who inquired about our senior dog who had managed to get out of our new apartment, take a walk to the corner, be collected by a good samaritan and taken to the shelter. Upon racing to the shelter to collect him we were asked to prove our identity and taken (mildly) to task for not having updated the address associated with our dog's microchip. (We moved to Montclair from a city 28 miles away just months before, and they wondered how he had gotten so far!) Fast forward a couple of years after our dogs passing, we attempted to adopt another dog for the family. Liz personally asked a lot of questions to understand the kind of dog which would suit our family. She reached out to us once for us to make an introduction and upon meeting the dog noticed that while there was affection, it likely wouldn't be a good fit due to my allergies. I liked that she was really protective of the animals there and made it a point for adoptions that made 100% sense. Liz is not only an advocate for the animals, but she is also a fount of knowledge and caring assistance for the citizens of the town who love them. She always answers comments and questions directed her way on social media, and in person is always happy to share a few words and love on your dog! Thank you, Liz!
The staff is extremely supportive and helpful. They work to help you find the cat that works for you and your lifestyle. They allow you to go and see the cats and learn about their habits and diets. An amazing experience. They got through our application very quickly and reached out to us in a timely manner.
We adopted a two year female Boxer on August 1st. Her name is Athena and we just adore her. She has been amazing for the first month we have had her. We live in Pennsylvania and happened to see Athena on Petfinder and so happy we did. Athena had a rough start to her life and we are beyond thrilled to have found her!! She is our fourth Boxer and the third that we have rescued. We met with Liz upon arrival to the shelter and fell in love wtih Athena from the first moment we saw her. Liz and a few other angels help Athena along her resuce journey. Liz was awesome and very helpful, we are glad to have met her. The shelter courtyard we were met with Athena is super clean and well taken care of and Athena was also in great shape, she is the sweetest dog ever, we feel so lucky and would certainly recommend this shelter and also adopt from there again. She has been on lots of field trips and is so well behanved! We spend TONS of time playing with her, she goes for two walks a day (about three miles)and is doing great. Can not say enought good things or thank you enough!
The staff here really makes the experience so great. They were so helpful in giving us tips on adopting a new dog. They also really make sure you are getting a pet that is the best fit. I would highly recommend adopting from here.
Overall wonderful experience, everyone we encountered was very kind, patient and professional. We adopted our newest furbaby in December and we could not be happier. Ringo then, now Scottie. I told the director exactly what we wanted to add to our family, she was very understanding and knowledgeable about all the dogs in the shelter. I was able to see all the dogs in the kennels and the pups that were fresh off quarantine. When we first met Scottie, we were the first people to see him. We met him, had our chihuahua walk with him, immediately fell in love and shortly after we where going home with him. Truly a blessing. He is such a happy dog, loves to snuggle and bark at the mailman.
