I lost the sweetest cat about a year ago and wanted another, but had mixed emotions about looking for a new fur baby. The staff at FAMD were great! I was thinking about a kitten, but thought I would meet all of the cats just to be sure. The second the volunteer opened Mozart’s (Red Hot Chili Peppers) door, he was climbing into my arms! He’s been home for a week and a half and is the absolute sweetest boy! Thank you so much!

My fiancé and I adopted Giuseppe (formally Sandal) in October 2023 after we fell in love with him at Pet Supplies Plus. The application process was quick and easy, and after a brief conversation with the shelter we were able to pick him up the same day! He is such a loving animal and always wants to be around the family! I will definitely be going back to Friends for Animals of Metro Detroit for future pets!

What a wonderful shelter. The staff is so caring and hard working. The facility is well managed and clean. I wish I could adopt all of their animals.

My husband and I got our two beautiful boys from here ♥️ This shelter is absolutely wonderful. They are so helpful, informative, kind, and genuinely caring. It’s always a pleasant experience stopping by. Please don’t hesitate to adopt from here. And if you’re shopping around for places to adopt from, I guarantee you won’t be disappointed coming here!!! They are the BEST.

Having a doggy slumber party with Captain Hook was so much fun! He was such a well behaved house guest. CH is a very gentle, totally sweet and affectionate pup that’s still available for adoption! Check him out at the Friends for Animals of Metro Detroit.

HORRIBle experience with Sue…also I left a detailed review that was deleted. So here it is again. If I could give them 0 stars I would. My cats been missing for over a week (she’s an indoor/outdoor cat). I’ve been stopping at the shelter every few days to check if someone had brought her in. Two days ago she showed up on my porch but wouldn’t come in. I stopped at the shelter today to rent an animal humane trap. On the adoption side, I spoke with Sue. She asked me if my cat was spayed and I informed her that she wasn’t….due to my cultural practices. I let her know that when my cat is closer to turning 1…I’ll spay her. However, her reaction and comments were disrespectful. She kept asking me what I would do if she had kittens and when I said I’ll care for them she was spectacle and kept asking/making unnecessary rude comments. Sue went on to explain to me that cats have multiple kittens and they are hard to care for. As if I couldn’t possibly understand or know anything about cats/cat pregnancy. I felt like I was being talked down to the entire time I was standing there especially with Sue assuming I wouldn’t care for my cat or her maybe kittens. The girl next to her (brown hair and glasses) felt this and she kept trying to cut her off. But to no avail, Sue felt the need to disrespect my beliefs while assuming I wouldn’t care for my animal/s. I am trying to understand how someone with such rude comments can work in an animal shelter. Also I would like to note that my issue isn’t that she asked if my cat was spayed…my issue is her assuming I wouldn’t care for them and then proceeding to ask me over and over again if I would take care of my cats kittens. As if I didn’t answer her the first time.
