As a concerned neighbor living near Kay’s Animal Shelter in Arlington Heights, IL, I feel compelled to share my observations and experiences with this facility. Despite their large fenced-in property, I have never seen any dogs from the shelter being taken outside or walked by staff or volunteers at any time of the day. The gates are always closed, and the parking lot remains empty, indicating a lack of outdoor activity for the shelter dogs. My concerns deepened when I reached out to Kay’s Animal Shelter to offer my time as a volunteer to walk the dogs and provide them with much-needed socialization. To my surprise, I was informed that they do not allow volunteers and are not seeking any additional help. This response contradicts the reviews claiming that the shelter is short-staffed, raising questions about their true staffing situation. I find it puzzling how volunteers willing to dedicate their time and effort to socialize with the dogs would not be welcomed at Kay’s Animal Shelter. As a dog owner myself, I understand the importance of love, affection, and attention for these animals. The thought of multiple dogs not receiving the care and interaction they deserve is deeply concerning. Despite these troubling observations, I want to emphasize that if you are considering adopting a pet from Kay’s Animal Shelter, please do not be discouraged by this review. Instead, let it serve as a call to action to save these animals from what feels like a restrictive environment. By adopting a pet from the shelter, you have the opportunity to provide a loving home and save a life in need. It is my hope that Kay’s Animal Shelter reevaluates its policies and practices to ensure that the dogs in their care receive the love, attention, and outdoor activity they deserve. Every animal deserves a chance at happiness and companionship, and it is essential that the shelter prioritizes the well-being of its residents.

I drive past this place daily. Never a dogs being walked. No cars ever in the parking lot. Who takes care of the animals? They prob neglect them. Please report this place. They are shady and need to be shut down!! Poor animals

Thought I would update the picture regarding Kay's Animal shelter. I have 2 dogs from this shelter. 1 from 12 years ago and 1 from a year ago.

Yes, you may get a wonderful pet. My family did. Then we realized all Kay’s care about is money, certainly not good homes. Other reputable shelters check references, do meet and greets, call your vet if you have one, and try to make the best match for you, or you and your family. First one to complete bogus paperwork and hand over $, gets the animal. Stories about background are bogus. We were told two totally different “facts” from two different employees about our puppy. Most of these pets seem to come from neighboring states known for awful, but legal, puppy mills. Please don’t support them. There are so many wonderful, legitimate dog and cat rescues in the area.

I had a very good experience adopting my cat from here. When I arrived, they verified my information first and then I was able to meet my cat and decide if I would be taking her home. They seemed to know a lot about the dogs and cats in their shelter, which I took as a good sign. They even showed me pictures of my cat playing in an open space at the shelter and gave me information on how to help my cat transition in my home. I read some other reviews on this place indicating they were only in it for the money, but I highly doubt this. It was $180 to adopt my adult cat and she was fully vaccinated and was already previously checked out for health issues. They also gave me a complimentary vet visit coupon for her first visit with me. Cali (short for Calypso) has been so sweet and loving in our home. I'm so happy to have her as part of our family.

I had a wonderful experience adopting my puppy from kay’s animal shelter. The process was very easy. When adopting my puppy Kays had everything all set up for my dog being neutered and that was amazing because everything was taken care of. Thank you Kay’s for everything
