Description Seattle Area Feline Rescue is a non-profit, no-kill rescue. SAFe Rescue takes in homeless cats and kittens, gives them the care they need to recover, and finds them loving homes. 2,000 felines, including seniors and special needs cats, find homes at SAFe during a typical year. You're welcome to stop by at our retail storefront Adoption Center. An extensive network of community volunteers and foster families helps the rescue carry out its mission and save more lives.
I went to Seattle Area Feline Rescue just to see what cats they had available for adoption. I thought wanted a bonded pair of kittens but the only pair of cats that they had were a pair of 3 year old brothers. I wasn’t sure about them at first, but after talking with the adoption counselor the next thing I knew I found myself taking the brothers home with me. I thought “hmmm, I’m not too sure about this, but ok I’ll see what happens.” It has been a year since I adopted the brothers Mack and Frankie and I have absolutely no regrets. They are perfect gentlemen with excellent litter box habits. Even though they were scared at first they never bit or scratched. They bring me tremendous joy and I am so glad that I took a chance on them!
I lost my 14 year old cat in January and knew I would want to own another cat in the future, but wanted to give myself time until I knew I was ready. Once I was, I researched shelters and found SAFe. I planned to go in on a specific date and see if I matched with any cats. Be sure to read the hours on their site, and what to be ready for when you go in to adopt (like bringing a carrier). They have all the information you'll need on the site. I went in and did the adoption interview, then they asked which cat I'd like to visit with first, and I already had a 6 year old boy in mind. We met and immediately fell in love. He has some dental issues so they gave me a voucher to take a significant amount of money out of the cost, and they give everyone an exam voucher that vet clinics will take, you just have to call around. The facility was very clean and well laid out and calm. It seems like a pleasant place for a cat to stay if they have to. My kitty relaxed pretty fast upon getting home, he didn't seem too traumatized by his stay at the shelter. :)
Came here looking for a new cat, the staff were super helpful and sweet when it came to the adoption process and medical records. They make sure which cats in the adoption center would be the best fit for your household and if they need specific care, I would 100% recommend to anyone looking for a fur baby
Staff were friendly and knowledgeable adoption process was easy, we walked in to look and walked out with two kittens! It was so helpful that they sent us home with food and since it is a rescue, it is great that we are able to get the one month of health insurance and the free vet visit with the adoption
I really wanted to give this place 5 stars but figured 3 was enough. I loved how nice the gentleman was at the front desk and how well set up everything was. What I didn’t like was the “counselor” who came to talk to us before we wanted to visit with some cats. We came in looking for a kitten for my cat at home. After my move to Seattle she didn’t have a friend anymore and has been lonely. I seen a few kittens I wanted to see but then I saw their kitten adoption policy, “adopt two kittens…” I asked the “counselor” if that was still applicable since I have a cat at home and really she’s extremely playful and wants her toys 24/7. The demeanor I was being talked to was almost as if I’ve never owned a cat, I also didn’t appreciate being told to look at the older cats since a kitten wouldn’t be the best fit for us - based off what information? I gave about 2 pieces of information about having a cat who was 4 and was told that they tend to be more grumpy with old age. My cat is not old and far from it. I was confused on how an older cat being introduced into a house with another cat who is 4 by the way, would even work? Wouldn’t that cause more territory issues since say the adopted cat could already have predisposed attitude/personality traits? I love my cat very much and just want the best for her and to not be bored while I’m at work considering she has tons of toys & interactive ones. I was extremely bummed leaving today, I didn’t even proceed to look at any cats. I also don’t understand the kitten policy when “Dudley” the black and white kitten was all by himself because his other siblings got adopted out. How is that fair? And how is fair to people that come in wanting to ADOPT rather than find a kitten on the streets?
I came in on adoption day and just inquired about volunteering. They are very open to giving you the role that you want. For example, I said, I just wanna be around cats and clean poop and not be around children. They were completely cool with that. Plus there were a ton of kittens, and they all looked very happy and healthy. There are a handful of older cats, which also look happy and healthy. I feel like I got my fix of kitties that day.
