Description Animal Welfare Association (AWA), a private, non-profit, 501(c)3 animal welfare organization, operates the oldest and largest low-cost spay/neuter clinic, adoption center and no-kill animal shelter in South Jersey. In 2022 we opened our new Adoption and Education Center to better serve the community and expand not only our adoption programs but our humane education programs in the region.

Last year our family was looking to adopt a bunny for our 12 year old. She loves rabbits and we decided to visit the AWA. We were impressed with how friendly and helpful the staff was. I loved how clean and modern the facility is. It was clear to us how much the staff cares for each animal. We explained we needed a rabbit who was friendly and easy to handle. The staff recommended the perfect bunny for our family and since we’ve adopted her, she’s become a fast member of our family. This is the place I would recommend to anyone who wants to provide home for a pet. They cater to the needs of the animal by educating the pet owner on how to care for their new pet. They check in to see how the pet is adjusting after adopting. It’s so evident that the staff truly wants to provide the animal with a safe and loving home.

I rescued a dog there August 9. They seem to genuinely care who the animal goes home with and you have to meet him or her first to see if the vibe is there. They give you full medical details to provide to your vet and overall it was a great experience. They’re 100% donation based and one of the better facilities I’ve ever been to. Consider this place for your best animal!

This is the best animal shelter in the area! The staff members are caring and patient. I got to work with Zac. He was so thorough! The facility is clean and well maintained. You can tell they really care about the animals, and do their best to make sure they find good, loving homes. My third time adopting from AWA, and I will continue to support this organization! Thanks for all you guys do!

This was my second time adopting a kitten. What impresses me most about this shelter is the love, care, and compassion that is shown for their animals. They only want them to have happy, loving homes. Zac A. was knowledgeable and truly made the experience happy and made us feel like family. We love our new baby!

AWA is hands down the best adoption center in the region. Behaviorists, a clinic, constant communication and support. Somehow they take care of all their animals (clients?), were able to renovate without tax dollars to make a safer more calming environment, and check in with the new owners frequently. I will always support this organization. Thank you for supporting me and my new friend Leroy!

My husband and I have been so excited to bring a new family member home. We chose to adopt at Animal Welfare Association and it was a very pleasant experience! It’s clear how well taken care of these animals are by the people who work here. Our counselor who worked with us seemed to genuinely care about the animals and make sure they make it into their forever homes. The workers were nice and polite. They treated the animals well. We were seen to in a timely manner and we had our happy puppy plopped into our arms as soon as we were signing the paperwork! Please adopt here!
