Description The Voorhees Animal Orphanage is a 501-c-3, non-profit Municipal Animal Shelter dedicated to providing shelter, food and medical care to stray and unwanted animals until permanent homes can be found. We are an open-intake animal shelter serving 29 municipalities in Southern New Jersey, 19 of which are in Camden County. Although the Voorhees Animal Orphanage serves almost half of Camden County, NJ, we do not receive any operational or financial support from the County. We are also an Adoption Center. That means when space allows we are able to rescue cats & dogs from over-crowded, high-kill shelters and rescues. We work with local, regional and national shelters and rescue groups, saving lives wherever and whenever we can.

I adopted my cat Lexi from them and she was so well taken care of. I was very impressed with the facility so clean and organized. When I took her to the vet, they said all of her shots were 100% and she is in perfect health. Thank you for doing such a great job! Highly recommend this place

My sister and her family twice adopted dogs from Voorhees Animal Orphanage over the years. Both dogs were pretty and kind, Great family dogs. Her daughter later adopted a dog from Voorhees Animal Orphanage. She has since been enjoying her k-9 friend. A few months ago I recommended Voorhees Animal Orphanage to a friend looking for a dog to adopt. He adopted a border collie mix, a Real sweetheart, loves to cuddle and play. He is Very happy with the dog. I Always recommend Voorhees Animal Orphanage to people looking for dogs or cats.

Do yourself a favor and spend the extra on a breeder or find a shelter that truly cares about animals going to loving families by a sane and normal process that doesn't require ridiculous and weird interviews. My sense is that this place is not a kid friendly place. I want to make sure a dog is a good fit for my family. They seem to approach it the other way around. Delusional and seemingly ambiguous process.

Wee just adopted our pup from VAO and couldn't be happier. All of the staff were kind and patient with us, they kept us informed and updated as we had questions about a couple different dogs. Their trainer took the time to meet with me. I have nothing but great things to say, they are a wonderful shelter that does amazing things to help so many animals every year.

Well, after countless years of fostering and rescuing dogs and cats alike, our application was rejected for a a one year old cat on the basis of a service dog and a child as part of the family. They said there’s nothing wrong with our application but that this extremely social young cat wouldn’t do well in a home with a dog and a child. When I called to ask about why, the application coordinator was too busy and the woman I spoke to was rude and took my phone number even though she said “they won’t be calling you back.” I’m disgusted and frankly appalled at the treatment of a shelter I used to speak so highly of. They had a volunteer tell us there was another family who applied that was a “better fit” while we were there. I’m certain there aren’t even other applications in for this cat, so sadly it’ll spend even longer in the shelter which will negatively affect its mental health much more than adjusting to life with a service dog and a child. Adopt don’t shop, but not from here.

Business is conducted very professionally. The staff is very friendly, warm, and knowledgeable. Plenty of fur babies needing homes. We respect the adoption process and the steps Voorhees Animal Orphanage takes to ensure the orphans go home with the right families. Very highly recommended.
