Description Cleveland County Animal Services is a managed-admissions shelter in that we will accept animals into the shelter system based on available shelter and foster space. During peak admissions, owners wanting to surrender their pets may be asked to wait until space is available to take their pet. Managed-admissions allows us to obtain more complete information about the situation; to have a better understanding of the pets needs; and to provide resources and alternatives to owners wishing to surrender their pets. Our mission is to protect the health and safety of our residents; promote humane care and prevent cruel treatment of animals; and work to reduce the number of stray and homeless animals in our county.

Not trying to be condescending but you guys really need to pay more attention to detail with some of the dogs. We adopted a dog on Friday May 26 and all seemed fine for about the first 2 hours in our care and we were told that he was a sweet gentle dog. We know that him being in the shelter environment may display one side of his behavior but sometimes that's not the case with this particular dog, he turned on me and attacked me without warning. Showed bad aggression towards anyone who approached the vehicle. We had to get the county we live in involved and relinquish him to them . So unfortunate.

I haven't adopted an animal from this shelter. I tried to contact the shelter to ask if they work with the animals like they do at the shelter in Charlotte so adoptees know if the animals are housetrained, dog and kid friendly, have resource guarding,good on a leash, are treat motivated, or have any behavior issues that need work, etc but got no reply to my queries. In this day and age, people shouldn't have to take their chances when adopting an animal. There are shelters who have animal behaviorists or even a good foster program who work with the dogs on issues. I was going to come to the adoption event today to see if they might have more info on their dogs than they offer on their website, but after reading some reviews here, I don't think I will.

I cannot get “an officer” to come pick up this stray dog and its pitiful im feeding it because NOBODY will come pick the dog up. Ive called repeatedly.

I dropped off a super sweet pregnant cat named Momma there yesterday afternoon. The Staff was so sweet and made me feel so comfortable, confident and safe leaving her there. She wasn't mine but honestly I love animals more than people, and this place gave me no doubts her and her babies would be well taken care of and they even said she should have no problem getting adopted! She's a sweet Grey haired angel, and so young! And I cannot wait to see her adopted by someone worthy in the future! Thank you to the staff for saving Momma and her babies, and thank you for making it such an easy, welcoming process. I will absolutely keep them in mind for the future as should you! So clean, so many happy cared for animals!

Thank you so much for the two beautiful cats. I adopted they are great! The people at the shelter were very kind and really made sure we were a perfect match for us We are so pleased with our two new kids and the many years of love and happiness they surely will bring.

Super nice, helpful ladies in the front office! They remembered me and my pup Lily from when I adopted her the year before. The entire staff is happy to help with tours, meet & greets, seeing if the dogs react to the cats in the cat room and whatever else you may need to give the animals their new family/forever home. They helped me with finding a veterinarian for last minute booster shots for the dog (I was getting married in three days, having to board my pup and realized she was due for her shots since the kennel required them and I couldn't get in at my normal vet on such short notice). I've adopted a cat and a dog with them over the last two and a half years and they are wonderful animals.
