Greatest bunch of people I have met in many years. They went above, beyond, and then some to make sure my 3 cats were return to me. Unfortunately, they gave my lab Lady to the girl who was with me when we had the accident. She has now given her away after I drove 2000 miles across the country and spent $2100 to rescue Lady for the shelter. But, at the time, it was a good thing to do. So, no hard feelings of any kind. Lady, I'm sure will make it back to the pound soon and I will rescue her again. Thank you, staff and management of the HVAS.
The young lady working the day I went was absolutely wonderful. She showed the adoptable dogs, which were outside that day, and told me a little about each one. I wish I could have taken all of them.
I got a beautiful 1 year old dog here, we spent an hour with him at the place , he would snip from here to there but no major sign of aggression. We picked him up at some big adoption showing at this womans house I believe nancy. She told me there was one time with a family where he just got spooked and snapped at a little boy and the dad. NOTHING MAJOR . She said she had been training him to take little "abuses " from kids like pulling and yanking. He seemed to be perfect until. I read the paper they gave us , he had not even been here a full blown 2 weeks in this facility , they had not behavioral notes, but I assumed this shelter would not lie and try to find a family that would best suit him. Well come to find out the dog has some MAJOR AGGRESSION and episodes from here to there. he is a good boy at heart , but he needs the right people to care for him , if I knew this information before or if the shelter took the time to know the dog before I would have never taken him home and taken him away from who could have potentially been his forever family
The reason why giving these people one star is because of what they did. I was interested in adopting this dog that was suppose to have been available that i had seen on Petfinder. So i called about it yesterday morning and they told me that the dog was in foster care and that the dog needed to be neutered and it wouldn't be available until the end of the week and just to call back then. I asked my husband to call back that evening to get clarification. Someone named Nancy called us back and told us it was best to text her. Then told us that he was adopted today. So not only did they lie to me but adopted the dog out underneath me. Way to be professional. Why post a dog up for adoption when you know your going to adopt it for yourself. That's so selfish! I thought it was about finding dogs good homes.
We adopted a maltese mix at the NKUT adoption event 2017 from Paws For Life. His foster dad told us he was aggressive when it came to food, we thought we could deal with that. The foster dad and Nancy, the Paws for Life founder told us if at any time we didn't feel like our dog was a good fit we could return him to Paws for Life, no questions asked, and they would gladly take him back. We took our dog home with us and it definitely wasn't a good fit. He was a sweet dog but was growling at us over everything, even just saying his name. Nancy gave me her personal phone number and so I tried calling her several times and left messages but no answer. She finally called me back and told me I could drive down to Heber and the dog's foster dad would take him from there. So I drove down to Heber and when I parked in the area the foster dad would meet me at, as I was getting out of my car, Nancy opened my passenger side door and grabbed the dog. I felt that was extremely inappropriate and unprofessional. First of all she told me the foster dad would meet me and also opening someone else's car door without permission, with her being a stranger as well, was very rude. She told me that she would make sure that the dog was put in foster care for a couple more weeks so he could be better trained before being adopted again. She refunded me for the dog and I told her I was sorry it didn't work out. She then proceeded to tell me that this dog just needed a stronger owner that wouldn't give in to a dog making a little noise. Again, extremely rude and unprofessional. When I drove away, Nancy came running after my car and waving her arms. I stopped and asked her what was wrong and she asked me where the dog's medical records were. I told her they were at my house, I was never told to bring them. I also told her that I assumed her company would have copies of any dog's medical records that they've had. She got very upset and started yelling at me in the middle of the road. First she wanted me to drive back to Sandy, UT to go get the records and then bring them back to Heber, I told her I wasn't going to drive two hours to bring them to her, I told her I would mail them. She told me those were the only originals and she also yelled that what if the dog was adopted tomorrow, he wouldn't have any medical records to go with him to new owners. That was very alarming because earlier she had clearly told me he would be trained for a few more weeks to not be as aggressive before he was adopted, and just a few minutes later she was telling me if he was adopted the next day he would need his medical records. Overall Nancy was a horrible woman to deal with. Being humiliated by her was obviously extremely unpleasant. Also it seems that she is more into her company for the money than in it for the dogs, I say that because of what she said about the dog being trained for a few weeks before being available for adoption and then moments later telling me that he could be adopted the next day. That made me think that Nancy is untrustworthy and doesn't have the dogs best interest at heart. It's also disconcerting that Paws for Life doesn't keep copies of their dogs' medical records. Every dog rescue I know of or have come into contact with has copies of the records. To sum it up, the company and Nancy are unprofessional, incompetent, and in it for the money.
Staff was very friendly and let us see all the animals even though we were just adopting a cat. We brought a former stray home with us and we have loved having her.
