Description The mission of the Milo Foundation is to rescue adoptable dogs and cats from high-kill animal control shelters and adopt them to loving homes best suited to provide lifetime care. We rehabilitate dogs and cats, offer sanctuary to those that are not adoptable, and educate the public about responsible pet guardianship, including spay/neuter.

Tried to send an application after being recommended by a friend and never heard anything. Also tried to call them, but they didn’t seem to have any staff available to pick up. Their policies say to give them 1-2 days and to try not to reach out about the same animal multiple times, but I would have thought they’d give a courtesy email if my app was denied or not.

Just got my new fur baby. She is an angel. Her foster mom is equally fantastic. I cannot say enough good things about her. She was as informative as she could be and so gracious.

Very cramped area for so many people and animals. Went to look at cats with a friend and was crammed into the cat room with a worker who talked on and on. No space to think. Next, filled out an app, and was allowed to visit dogs on my own. What a difference it makes to not have a worker following me around talking and pushing phone pictures in my face. I chose to visit a puppy in outside cage and was once again escorted by a worker who talked on and on and showed me photos on her phone. The puppies were starved for attention and if nothing else would have appreciated a calm visit. Also, their adoption fees are way too high. These animals are either strays or from shelters. "Non-Profit" means no profit after all expenses are paid so their expenses must be mighty expensive! Oakland animal shelter has kitties for $20 plus $5 for the take home box.

We adopted these two little pups! It's got a community vibe and the people at Milo are super friendly and very helpful! It was a very easy process for us. Thank you Milo ❤️

Well intended rescue mission, but profoundly disorganized. Additionally the dogs were filthy and the facility burns your nose when entering as it reeks of pet urine and feces worse than any place that I’ve ever been to. I am actually very worried about the condition of this place. Also concerning, when they take the dogs to get spayed two hours away, they stack crates three high with a bungee cord until their van is full but there is no air conditioning. An employee assured me that while the a/c was completely nonexistent that they had a DIY “swamp cooler”. For more context on my experience, I applied for a dog online and came in after calling. The employee (very sweet) seemed confused and it took an hour to get my paperwork pulled up and license scanned. Every step of the process employees seemed confused, had to ask multiple people the same question, and would contradict each other. Even once I was fostering a dog they gave me the wrong dose of meds for worms the dog came with. Also the wrong name of meds was written on the envelope so my vet was so confused as well. When I called or emailed trying to find out the right info about these meds, employees denied any error and I had to email 5+ times and ultimately call to talk to Kyle the vet tech to figure out an error had been made and got it finally cleared up. A vet should have over sight of the health of the dogs. Currently there are many gaps in the care here. Every interaction I had here was full of many misunderstandings, errors, and confusion. Ultimately I have nothing but empathy for the employees as this can not be easy work and they obviously care, but the lack of leadership and organization of this rescue both in the process of adoption and also the building itself is stifling the good work they want to do. I am so grateful for the dog I fostered and adopted but I feel really concerned about the integrity of this rescue. A humane society is going to be a safer bet.

If I could I would give them 0/5 stars. I went in the shelter and tried to adopt a kitten. A volunteer(white older lady) started talking to my brother and I after we proceeded to tell her we didn’t need help and were just looking. She sees us looking at the kitten and begins saying we can’t adopt her because she needs to be with her brother. She told us we didn’t know anything about cats after my brother had just done intensive research. She and other workers at the Milo Foundation made the process very discouraging and left the kittens with no home. The point of shelters is to have as many pets adopted but with their attitude and the process just makes it super sucky. I 100% enjoyed the workers and process at Jelly’s in San Pablo, where we adopted our kitten.
