Staff and volunteers are very rude and make it very clear that they don’t want to do their jobs. The staff try to intimidate and deter you from helping strays. There should be no reason as to why helping a dog should be intimidating and infuriating. They obviously don’t know how to run this business and it’s abhorrently disappointing that they are still functioning even after all the negative reviews explaining the disgusting behavior of the staff over the course of 10 years. I was trying to get help for a stray dog and I spent almost 2 hours of my time at the shelter trying to help the dog and prove that it wasn’t mine. I asked to talk to someone twice, the first time I was completely ignored. The second time, my mom was on my phone trying to also talk to someone and one of the staff angrily got out of their chair, storming off into a different room with my phone (great business etiquette). All of this over a dog. If I knew it was gonna be such a problem trying to help a stray dog, I would’ve just taken it to a kill shelter and not wasted my time dealing with the rude staff. After all, they made it seem like me trying to do a kind act was a God forbidden burden. At the time, I didn’t know they were short on space. So I ask, why? Why waste my time with repetitive questions and rude conversations instead of just telling me that there’s no space? They beat around the bush for no reason. I don’t know how long it takes to get a stray dog some help, but it’s definitely not supposed to be 2 hours. To be completely honest, don’t waste your time trying to help a stray or relinquished animal here. You’ll save your time taking it to a kill shelter or turning a blind eye and not making it your problem. That’s what they taught me. As much as they market helping animals, it’s undeniably apparent that they don’t want to help these animals.

Would highly recommend getting a cat here. The volunteers in the cat area are super friendly as well as the front desk ladies. Getting a dog here is a completely different story. My husband and I were interested in a dog and put in an application so we could meet him. The dog trainer saw our application and looked at the other ladies in the front and said “an apartment” as we were standing right there. She then told us she doesn’t like the idea of an apartment and said she will show him to us anyways. Instead of recommending a different type of dog or offering solutions, she proceeded to lecture my husband about how we should wait because we’re newly married and we go out to dinner. How that is relevant to us giving the dog a loving home? No idea. She also told us to get a cat instead because dogs require training.(as if we don’t know that already). We have done research and just wanted to meet this dog. She then cut our visit and questions short so she could go tend to her dog.

My wife submitter an application for a dog. First told they had not received and upon follow up in person they said they had it. Then told that many interested in the dog, and would make an appointment for a in person with the dog. The told us the trainer was out and only had one trainer. So should have contacted us for an opportunity to interact with the dog. To this date 1 1/2 weeks nothing and the dog is gone. This place is more than difficult to deal with and find them more than complicated to deal with. Go elsewhere.

We are so happy we adopted our new furry baby from Pet Project Foundation. So happy we discovered this shelter. They really care about the animals and be sure they place them in the proper forever homes. The staff is fabulous and so caring and want the best for everyone. Ester, one of the trainers, was so fabulous (I still send her updates and photos). She told us the training Martin would need for success and he’s doing so well. I hope you find your furry baby here - they are fabulous!

At the San Clemente and Dana Point shelter. We were looking for a second dog. They were all in very nice large kennels however so sad to see they were about 95% full. Some beautiful dogs, some just a year old. Siberian husky, white female Dogo, terriers, cattle dogs and one dog that looked medium mix blonde coat had a male puppy in with her, just a mom about two months. Wanted to take them all home just don’t have the space. If you’re looking for your next pet PLEASE come here and look. Don’t go to a breeder. Our first dog is a 5 year old rescue that has been with us for 7 years and now a senior. They have a trainer that works with the dogs too to make sure they’re adoptable. Everyone deserves a loving home. Staff super friendly and well informed about the dogs.

I adopted a black cat here a little over a year ago now and the staff and experience of the actual adoption was nice and fairly easy. Louis (formerly known as Nacho) has been a shining light in my home and has offered us so much positivity. I’m very grateful for this shelter and this little bundle of fur that they were able to pair me up with.
