We recently adopted a Giant Schnauzer puppy from here. He's a wonderful dog. They are very well meaning people that care greatly about the animals....they however are not experts on dogs, their behavior or training. They appear to just be a group of very kind hearted women trying to make a difference in the lives on these creatures. Keep in mind most shelter workers aren't the most knowledgeable either - so if you are struggling with your new canine family member you should perhaps look into training in your area and do some research on your own. There are a lot of resources online to help with adapting shelter pups. Like any rescue it has it's pros and cons: Pros: Dogs were clean and healthy, the facility was well maintained and the process was easy. we actually ended up adopting the puppy they suggested over the one we originally wanted - He chose us. Cons: The adoption price is a bit high (but that's Pennsylvania problem), the puppy was on adult food and did not have the teeth for yet (he has a chicken allergy), and his hind legs were muscularly under developed due to crating. These are factors with any shelter or rescue system. these people do care greatly about the animals they help and the foster family have remained in contact for updates on his progress. The point of my review is so people understand that EVERY dog in a rescue situation will need extra care. They're all barely holding on until they find their forever home. There will be unforeseen hurdles and you should always vet any dog you adopt yourself immediately after bringing them home. I would recommend using Tractor Supply's walk in vet service for a check up upon adoption if you can't get your new family member into your regular vet immediately.
I adopted my pup from here and the foster family has been amazing- tons of information provided up front and they continue to provide boarding for my pooch while I travel for work. Any organization that rescues animals should be applauded. Thank you for the work that you do to provide loving homes for fur babies! My puppy, Astro, is absolutely the most perfect pup and I couldn't be happier. I am thankful that my neighbors recommended this organization to me
It has been over a year now since I adopted jace from them, from the beginning steps to the ending process it was easy and comfortable. The staff is great and they are very helpful. I love the vision they have and I will always recommend anyone who wants to adopt to go there!! Thank you!
See other absolutely ridiculous reviews on here that have to be either 1) sour grapes, 2) purposeful obfuscation, 3) misinterpretation, or 4) outright harmfulness. Davis rescued a puppy our family has now had for nearly a year. Yes, the dog has a few MINOR behavioral issues, but the nature of a rescue is that the dogs come from bad backgrounds and we are giving them a second chance at a good life. Just like humans, if the pups have suffered trauma, they will exhibit that at times. Davis has been nothing but good to my family and has maintained a really upbeat attitude in light of the recent negativity. God bless them for it.
My parents adopted a dog from Davis Dog Farm, They’ve contact the farm several times before about behavioral issues with their dog. She’s an amazing dog on her own, but when other people come around she is scared. Their beloved dog bit someone today, and they called the farm to ask about options. Davis Dog Farm immediately recommended they euthanize her. They were devastated hearing that from a place that is suppose to be giving dogs a better life. Killing an animal should be after all other options are exhausted, not the first. If you’re looking to get a dog from here don’t look to them for any help after the fact.
We adopted a wonderful dog, Lily, from Davis and the adoption process was very easy and straightforward. Unfortunately, she started having episodes of being unable to control her bowels overnight, and we woke to some big messes. We know it takes time for pups to adjust to new environments, so we were happy to work with her to find a solution. We made several attempts to contact the Dog Farm for help. I genuinely just wanted to leverage their own insight and experiences, to understand what could be causing it and what we could do to help both our pup and ourselves. The responses we received were brief and made us feel like it was something we should just accept as normal. I gave them the benefit of the doubt, thinking about how they are likely overworked volunteers with not much free time. So we worked with our vet, who was incredibly helpful and understanding. We modified her diet several times, gave her probiotics, and had her tested for various parasites and diseases. Unfortunately, over 3 months Lily’s condition did not improve, and it was too much stress on our household. For context, we had to say goodbye to our previous dog of 10 years because she developed a chronic illness that prevented her from controlling her bowels. It was an incredibly painful experience and remains a sensitive topic in our family. Making the decision to adopt a new dog was not easy and took time for us to work up to. We did not want to say goodbye to Lily. She made wonderful friendships in our family and our neighborhood. But it was not a good fit for our family, and we took time to come to terms with that. When I arrived to return Lily, I was appalled with the treatment I received from the staff. I was insulted, insinuated to be a bad father, and when I tried to defend myself and explain our situation, I was ganged up on by multiple staff members and repeatedly told to leave. They had no problem being hurtful to me, but lacked the decency to listen to my own perspective. Our family followed all proper procedures and I felt that, as dog lovers, they should be grateful for the opportunity to find Lily a more fitting home and family, but instead their priority was to shame me. We’re all very disappointed with the complete lack of compassion we were shown. I think that the people at Davis Dog Farm feel good about treating animals humanely, but they forget to treat the people behind those animals humanely as well.
