Beware of this "rescue" group. They charge the new families outrageous neuter/spayed fees even if the Westie they rescue is already neuter/spayed. BEWARE!
We had the same experience with Westie Rescue of Orange County. We passed every check with flying colors. We have neighbors who can testify about us. We have a most wonderful dog park about 1/4 mile from our house where we always took our Old English Sheepdogs to play with all the other dogs there. For three years we'd cared for a wonderful Westie who lived across the street when his "Mom" had to travel. We saw Frank every single day, and he loved us. Suddenly, for no reason at all, we were dropped by Westie Rescue! We never were told why...
My husband and I have now adopted 3 Westies from WROC in a span of 11 years. The people who run this charitable organization are the biggest hearted, most knowledgeable Westie experts around. So many of the dogs that they rescue have been traumatized and are in need of specialized care. Our now 15 yr old Westie had been torn to shreds by. Pit Bull when found. WROC rescued him and spent almost $3,000 rehabbing him. These dedicated, selfless people often wind up with 6 or more senior dogs that owners have abandoned due to age or health issues. They try hard to match each dog with a perfect home. Few are willing to do as much as WROC’s responsible leaders!
The Westie Rescue of OC is the Best! No question about it! The love, care and time they put into their rescues is immeasurable. I know this from first hand experience. I have adopted 2 Westies. Thank you so much for enriching our lives.
We are from New Mexico and have adopted westies from out of state before due to the small number of westies here. We have a good friend that is also good friends with the woman that runs the orange country Westie rescue, and they had a dog we wanted. We asked two simple questions: does the dog get along with other dogs and does the dog have any respiratory issues (we live at 7000 feet). These are really easy questions to answer, and we would have driven and picked up the dog. The woman that runs the rescue just would not answer and directed us to find a different rescue organization! I heard from multiple other sources how snobby this rescue is, and thought “that can’t be true”. Well, it is. Maybe this is a close knit club of friends or something, but if you aren’t in their “in group”, forget it, you don’t get a dog. Even though we submitted an application, had a home visit, and were approved for a dog, we just couldn’t convince them we were good enough to answer our questions. We ended up driving to San Diego and getting a wonder female Westie from “no wagging tails left behind”, a wonder and loving rescue run by sandy. They just rescued a number of wesites (that need a lot of loving care), so check them out.
Great organization with caring people who rescue, foster, and help find homes for the greatest dog breed of all time . . . WESTIES! Plus they have some fun events/fundraisers every year where you can meet other wonderful people and their westies.
