Description Ventura County Animal Services (VCAS) is an open admission, life-saving, municipal animal welfare agency located in Ventura County. VCAS offers a wide array of programs and services including animal sheltering, pet adoptions, lost & found, field services, cruelty investigations, pet licensing, TNR surgical services, low-cost vaccination clinics, volunteer and foster opportunities, and emergency disaster response. VCAS provides contract services to Camarillo, Fillmore, Moorpark, Ojai, Oxnard, Port Hueneme, Simi Valley, Ventura, and all unincorporated areas of Ventura County. VCAS is dedicated to improving the lives of the animals in their care, and to safeguard the community through rabies suppression and the sheltering of stray animals.

Is your enforcement officer Gonzalez supposed to be patrolling or sitting in neighborhoods for hours on end idling? There are laws against excessive idling, even for government employees, and if he's supposed to be patrolling I don't think he's being a very good steward of the publics trust and tax dollars.

I adopted my boys Sasha and Mishka during COVID-19 sight unseen. The staff there is wonderful and I should have left a review much sooner. I have been to the Camarillo and Simi Valley shelters throughout the years and the staff and volunteers are the greatest. My boys are 3 years old now and I love them, they are the best kitties ever.

We LOVE that VCAS offers a reading program called Rescue Readers. It has been a fun bonding period for my son and I, and he has learned a lot about empathy and compassion for animals in shelters. VCAS does the best they can to provide for all the animals in their care, which can be challenging given the number of animals they have. If anyone reads this, please consider adopting from VCAS when looking for a new furry friend - cats, dogs, bunnies, guinea pigs, etc. There are so many large breed dogs that are highly stressed and need a loving home.

Staff was amazing and very helpful. They all helped to guide our selection of a dog for our family. They have notes on each dog with histories and the volunteers really know their temperaments so definitely consult with them to make sure you have a good match.

We adopted a cat from here. The help we got during the process was very sweet and efficient !! Felt very good that they take extra step by not putting any animal to sleep even if they are not adopted for a while !! That's so compassionate of them to take on that extra burden!! Kudos to all of them !!!! 👍👌🙏🤗💖 Attaching our Simba's recent picture - now 5 yrs old and 2 latter pictures when I selected him he was - 4 months old !!!

It’s really difficult to be able to even begin to describe how much of a joke both VCAS and Oxnard Animal Control are. They literally do not do their job. There are dozens of Off-leash dog violations that occur on a daily basis from the Hollywood Beach/Channel Islands Harbor area up through Mandalay Beach and the communities south of the Ventura Harbor. I have never seen one person getting ticketed. There are likely tens of thousands of pets that are not licensed. But god forbid you take too long to complete a pet license application and you will get hit with a citation for that. No joke. I was issued a $100 citation essentially because I was taking too long to complete the online application due to there being a document I couldn’t locate. And at the end the day they accepted a document that wasn’t on the list of “acceptable documents.” Most of these municipal government agencies in this county and unincorporated areas are so unbelievably corrupt, inept, and unwilling to do their job, but they willing to be as financially predatory as humanly and unethically possible. If I had the time I would have 100% taken this before an administrative judge. Get out of this county if you can. It’s even worse run than Los Angeles / Los Angeles County. Only departments that actually do their job well are the fire department and waste management. Literally any other agency department is a massive joke.
