Description PAWS for Life’s mission is to take in lost or unwanted animals; to return lost ones to their owners whenever possible or after having them spayed or neutered, place them in good homes; and to educate the public about intelligent and humane treatment of animals. PAWS is a private animal shelter. We operate on “limited admission” based on space, staffing and adoptability.

I’ve been a fan of PAWS ever since I moved here 7 years ago. The facility is great, the staff are ultra friendly. This is Pueblos only no kill shelter and they do right by their dogs who are hand walked and played with until they get adopted. It’s a super pretty part of town. The picture I’ve posted is from my drone and they weren’t thrilled that I took my drone up on their private property and they (very kindly) asked me to take it elsewhere. I have no ill intent and paws can use this photo for anything they want ❤️

This place has made me feel horrible for trying to help community cats. I was advised by the humane society to come here. Than advised by Dee I could come once a week. Well once I came once a week she gave me this rude demeanor to her. I'm trying to help the community and even talking with city council in how we can help the community do more. Do to my cousin being the new county clerk of Pueblo County. Trying to make a difference as there is cameras as well as protocol to take my ID she can pull record that I come sometimes longer than a week. I feed over 16 stray cats, trying to get them fixed just I and my 11 year old. So I strive to do my part as a community builder, and I feel she discriminates me because of my race. Haven't done nothing however try and help animals that have no one else. My address is given so if she thinks I am lying she is more than happy to see what I am working with in my little area. This is sad when this place is place to help furbabies and you get shunned away saying you come more than once. By all means show me proof!!! I pray this place pulls together, it's not what you know it's who you know! Shame on them for turning there back on innocent animals who have done nothing to them, just needed help!

I’d give a zero if I could. We filled out an application. The following Monday, they called and asked some questions and called our vet. (Who gave a glowing reference for us.) A week passed, and we didn’t hear from anyone, so my wife called. They said a home visit was required since we were adopting a special needs cat and a tech would get in touch. The following Monday I get a message asking to set up a visit. I said I’m free tomorrow. No one responded. Another week goes by so I send an email. The next day we get a call to schedule a home visit. I schedule it. The day of the home visit the tech called and said they couldn’t do the visit because we said we’d be moving things due to carpet being installed the next day. Apparently there are an abundance of people who are willing adopt not one, but two of the cats they have had on their website with special needs. Thanks for pathetic communication and wasting my time. The animals in that shelter, especially the special needs animals deserve better.

Helped me adopt my little orphan dog Daisy, who came running up to me one night, with no tags / no collar, wasn't chipped, & no one claimed her. 30 days after no calls about her, this baby was mine! Been in love ever since!! So happy to provide a loving place for her to call home. It's been 6 years since we found each other. Thank you Paws 4 Life!

In my house, we adopt the old cats, the ones who wouldn’t otherwise be adopted and who don’t deserve to live their last years in a shelter. Our local shelter had zero cats so we traveled to Paws for Life to hopefully make a difference for a cat. And we found not one, but two cats who would have been great fits for our home and would likely be difficult adoptions. One cat had been there six months already. So we do the things and fill out the application, submit it and wait. And wait. And wait. The called and asked questions, then called our vet. And we waited. A week goes by and I call. We get an email the next day to schedule a home visit which we immediately responded to. And we waited. And waited. We waited another week before emailing them to see what’s up. They call the next day to schedule the home visit-finally we are getting somewhere. The day the visit is scheduled, we get a call that we would have to reschedule the visit because of some home improvements happening at our house (which we informed them of at the time of schedule). It truly feels as if Paw for Life has no desire to see their animals placed. There are multiple bare in place, and coupled with the lack of communication we withdrew our application. It is a shame that they would rather keep their animals in cages and over crowded rooms than placed in loving homes.

My husband volunteers here. They are caring, and loving to all animals and people. Hard working and dedicated to make sure that animals in their shelter are comfortable and healthy. Very careful to screen all applications. If you don't meet the requirements for a forever home for one of their animals they will explain why and what you need to do. They are creating family-friendly lives for an animal who may have never had that before.
