Description Oakland Animal Services is open 7 days a week from 11am to 5pm. On Thursdays, the shelter is open from 11am to 7pm. Adoption hours are on Thursdays from 12-7pm, and Fridays/Saturdays/Sundays from 12-3pm. Oakland Animal Services is Oakland’s only open admissions shelter: We accept all of Oakland’s homeless, injured, orphaned, unwanted, lost, and abandoned animals, regardless of age, breed, temperament or medical condition. We are a city agency that proudly provides public safety and animal welfare services as well as human health and social services. We are here to serve our community’s residents.

They are great with pet matching and even with the overcrowding crisis happening with unwanted pets. They allow you time and are not pushy on making you decide before youre ready. Volunteers are above and beyond. This shelter is a kill shelter at LAST RESORT. They do everything they can to find rescues that are breed specific when they can. They truly do put animal welfare as priority. Also adoption fees are very reasonable right now. Less than 20 dollars! I believe priority dogs are free.

My husband and me recently adopted an Alaskan Husky ( Breezy) from Okland animal Shelter. She is really lovely and has brought happiness to our home. It seems that she has no experience and everything is new to her. I am happy that she entered my life and I can give her the peace and love she deserves. We go to the hike every weekend and I try to show her new things during the week. She gets excited and surprised to see the smallest things, even the waves of the ocean. I can write to you about my beautiful daughter for days. I would like to thank all the staff of the Oakland animal shelter, because of your efforts, you have brought joy to the lives of people like me, and you are saving the lives of animals who deserve a better life, like Breezy

This review is so long overdue. I have adopted and used the services of OAS since approximately 1999 and OAS has become my go to for all animal welfare issues (adoption, stray care, licensing, fostering, spay/neuter and animal resource information). Over the years we have been blessed to have adopted some of the most wonderful dogs from OAS who will always have a place in our hearts. Please explore the OAS website which is a great source of information and resources regarding animal care, adoption, fostering an animal and so much more! Any notion of OAS as "the pound" or where animals are just killed are outdated. Please take a little time to see how far animal welfare has come. The staff, volunteers and the public at large who adopt, foster and volunteer in these times of decreasing budgets and increasing need, are caring, compassionate and dedicated animal lovers. They are each of us, they are YOU. :)

Today, my family brought in our beloved dog and best friend Rosie Grace of 11 years so she could find peace and end her suffering. Despite being a traumatic and challenging event, Carmen and the staff at the shelter graced us and Rosie with love and compassion. An otherwise difficult and traumatic experience was made bearable due to their efforts. The Oakland animal shelter is a shining example of a well run department with dedicated staff and volunteers. Anytime I've adopted a pet in Oakland (born and raised here and recently moved back) I've gotten them from OAS. The facility is pretty nice, the staff genuinely care, and they offer very affordable essential pet services for anyone. Highly recommend this place and hope they get as much traffic/funding/etc as they need and deserve.

I found a sweet dog on the street, since I couldn’t keep her I took her to Oakland Animal Services and they were very helpful with this sweet girl. They were able to take her in and made sure I filled out as much helpful information as I could. Hopefully they are able to find her a loving home. She has so much affection to give 🥰 ACR #70193
