I visited SPAC to meet with a few dogs to possibly foster one for a rescue. The staff was nothing but kind and courteous - you can tell they spend time with and care for each animal that comes through. The animals were clean and well cared for, as was the facility.
So kind. All the employees are beautiful people and I'm not just saying that kuz I need brownie points but they are so kind and even when you break doggy law.
I found an injured rabbit in my front yard. There’s a wildlife rehabilitation center 15 minutes drive away, but due to a neurological condition, I can’t safely or legally drive a car. So I called Saint Paul animal control to ask them to send an aco to transport the bunny. The guy who answered the phone told me that they couldn’t send an aco because “that’s not something we do.” I insisted and he put me on hold for a few minutes; came back and told me that he couldn’t send an officer out to transport but he could send one out to kill the rabbit. The entire time he sounded angry that I was asking him to do his job; like he had better things to do and I was infringing on that. Good to confirm that our local government is run by sociopaths
Sitting on my porch,I saw a dog trotting down the street that had a collar with tags obvious it. I had a feeling it was a runaway so I called to it and it came to me. I checked and found a current license tag and found a phone number and called several times but no answer. So I called Animal Control and spoke with a very nice and helpful lady there. While she was looking up the files to give me the address on record, the own drove by and spotted her. Said she had escaped a couple hours before. Happy ending to this tale. Point is the courtesy and professionalism of the lady I spoke with.
Don’t help animals being abused. When I called about animal neglect they told me to call the mayor cause they don’t have the funding to get to all those who need help. Animals will suffer and die because of these people.
I called them regarding a rooster that had been in a wooded area adjacent to Gillette Children's Hospital. It had been there two days in a row and appeared unable to move. I spoke with a woman at dispatch who was very kind, and told me they'd send someone within 15-30 minutes. An officer showed up within that timeframe. He went into the woods to capture the rooster, whose feet had been intentionally tied! I'm so glad I called; I do not understand how people can be so cruel. The officer was respectful and informative (initials M.K.). If any of the staff were annoyed or thought I was crazy, they kept it to themselves :-) My feathered friend was otherwise healthy and I'm thankful for the services SPAC provides and the rescue groups that help rehome these animals.
