As I write this I'm pissed at this facility cause I rescued 2 😸s from my workplace at one linden ave east Sims metal management. On Oct 18th 2024 I was finally able to catch them successful after about a month of feeding them and dropped them off at this shelter to be adopted as their extremely friendly. I worked hard every Night before my shift around 9 30 pm, I feed them got them use to human contact. .Fast forward its Oct 23 2024 as I'm walking to lunch at 2:30 am and, the same 2 kittens rushed out the bushes adjacent to our employee parking lot. I know it's them as I used a blue sharpie to mark one of them and it's them. I'll be contacting the Director of that facility for someone to be terminated and prosecuted for animal abuse. Then I'll be contacting the Jersey journal and the mayor's office. Simply unacceptable.
Liberty Humane Society* Being one of the few places for animal services in the area, we gotta be thankful this place exists! I couldn't go inside, because the hours are very limited, so that's why I gave it only 4 stars. Go there and get you a new best friend! *Again, hours of operation are very odd... Is someone there to watch the animals; I hope? 🥺
If I could give a negative ZERO rating I would. The staff lie, the woman at the front desk needs training on how to speak to people, even if she's having a bad day. It's obvious she does not like her job and it's only a pay check to her. The entire staff need to be replaced. I need surgery, can no longer care for my cat. Their suggestion was they can put my cat to sleep because of it's old age or I could take my cat to a list of places on West Side Ave that either do not exist/ 1 place was a pet shop store. Their reason was "we can only take animals if you have an eviction notice and can't take the animal to your new home" and then "Other than that, we don't have room for anymore animals". The city of Jersey City took over? Well it's worse!!! I went there July 2024, they are no better!
We adopted our little baby from LHS and couldn't be happier! We fostered her from the age of 7 weeks until about 11 weeks when she was spayed, and officially adopted her thereafter. LHS has been incredibly helpful throughout the process. It took a few days from when we applied to receiving a call from the adoption counselor and it was smooth sailing after that. She was a little hissy for the first couple hours when we got her home but has been our sweet girl ever since. :) We've never adopted a kitten before, so we contacted LHS on a few occasions when we had concerns about our kitten, and they patiently answered all our questions. My constructive feedback would be that it's difficult to choose a pet based on pictures online. This is a huge decision and I think most people would prefer to be able to spend a bit of time interacting with a few animals before making their choice. Why not people with vaccination records at least? In our case it turned out great and we love our kitty, but I can imagine this potentially being an issue for others. I might also suggest securing cones on the animals after spaying/neutering prior to the owners picking them back up. We struggled to get a cone on her and I think having a professional do it safely for us would have been ideal. But again, she turned out fine! Thank you Dana and all the rest of the staff & volunteers for the wonderful work you do!!!
This review is 6 years too late! We adopted our Zsa Zsa ( formerly Mini Maui from the Hawaiian Collection) and she has filled our lives with joy and laughter every day since. The staff there are warm and caring and I would gladly return to adopt another kitty when the time comes. Thank you for your wonderful fosters. Our little girl was a runt and now she is a happy and healthy young lady! Thank you for all you do for the animals.
Any new environment changes for pets is going to have some major challenges, which will require patience and love. If 1% of you has doubts, do what I did and wait a full week before you make any changes. We had an unbelievable experience the 1st 24-48 hrs. However, I'm pleased to share that my rescue pet has had made himself at home and slowly stealing my heart. I was a basket case when I had to leave him alone to go to the doctor yesterday. Seems he was cool because he knew I was coming back. I've also picked up a habit of browsing the chewy site. Most importantly learn the breed before you fall for the cuteness. You'll thank yourself for researching before deciding. I'm excited about the opportunity to take care of him very well; with minimal spoiling.
