Description The Chequamegon Humane Association was founded in 1980 as the Chequamegon Animal League (CAL) as it was then known. A brainchild of volunteers who saw a need in our area, CAL operated out of volunteer homes until a parcel of land was obtained from the city of Ashland on Old Airport Road. In 1994 CHA received a generous bequeath, which allowed us to implement a minimum standard of care so that only spayed or neutered animals, up-to-date on vaccinations were released for adoption. This significant step was the first toward curbing the continuous flow of unwanted cats and dogs in our area. CHA has come a long way since its humble beginnings thanks to our wonderful community. Around 1000 animals come through our doors annually.

we are nearly 4 months into our time with our dog, Kiwi, who we adopted from CHA. i will forever be thankful for their love to him while he was there. they were very patient in the over 3 hours my boyfriend and i were there, deciding if it was something we wanted to go through with. we ended up adopting him, and it was a decision we will never regret. kiwi as truly come out of his shell, and is the most amazing dog we could have asked for. thank you CHA, for giving him the love and care he needed during your time with him! 🩷
Great place. Staff and volunteers really care about the animals. I have adopted several animals from here. A couple of them have been special cases. they have always been very helpful and upfront when they knew an animal had issues and I was prepared for it when I adopted them.
CHA is dedicated to saving animal lives, providing the finest staff, and volunteers in a loving manner in a beautiful facility.
We completed an adoption for a puppy last week. They provided complete vet records and good education at the time of adoption. They also offer full support in the time following adoption. 5 out of 5!
Very clean facility, friendly staff and wonderful animals. We love our little adopted Millie. Edit: Millie is happy as ever 3 years on.
This was our first visit. The staff was very nice. They allowed us to take the cats out of the cage and play with them. They took the time to tell us about all the dogs that we asked about. They knew we weren't planning to adopt, just getting our cat & dog fix but still took time for us.
